Voice message problem with PA5800 voice dialer

I'm not sure that this is the right forum. If not, sorry. I recently purchased the Personal Assistance Voice Dialer PA5800 with emergency pendant. I can't get the voice message to work correctly. When the dialer dials a number, the person who picks up the phone on the other end hears the END of my recorded message, then a pause, then the ENTIRE recorded message. Also, pressing zero doesn't always work to stop the siren and listen in. I tried resetting the dialer and starting over, recording many different length messages, and reprogramming the numbers. Nothing works. I even got X10 to send me a replacement unit. Same thing happens on the replacement unit. I don't get it. If there is a defect in this product, why doesn't everyone who buys it have the same problem?
