Thinking of X10 for Security....
« on: December 07, 2009, 01:35:14 PM »

After having ADT out to the house. They figured it will cost almost 400$ just for 1 motion sensor and 4 door triggers.  (Includes Cell phone device)
+ 45$ a month locked in for 3 YEARS for the monitoring I have decided to look around first before I make that decision.

Looking at X10 I could do all my windows as well, for the 130$ package price.

1 thing my wife wanted was notification in our bedroom if a sensor gets tripped, with the alarm either armed or disarmed.  ADT provided this with an additional 199$ control panel  :-\

I was curious about the software that you can add on.  Can you somehow trigger a SMS\Email message to notify on the zone that was tripped?

If you get the ActiveHome Pro full plug-in package you'll be surprised at all that can be done!

Yes!
But you'll need a PC on 24/7 to do every thing.

I have numerous computers.  I could even build a dedicated one for this specific purpose.

Get prepared to save a lot of money! And if you ever decide to upgrade you can install or have a lot of systems installed and have it monitored for as little as 8 bucks a month with NO CONTRACTS!
