You mean connecting the camera (or other device) to the VA12A via a sender/receiver? Sure.... Video-in in the video-in. Then the USB into the computer.

If your wondering... if this could be a way to strip a DVD of its protective copy guarding and make illegal copies.. yeah I think that would work too. But it would be against the law and the quality would be compromised as well. But it can be a great way to grab a few secs of video off an old home movie... and email it to family. Using the free "windows movie maker" would likely be the easiest way.

Dave_x10, thanks for the tip, but no that's not what I was wondering.....especially since the free version of DVDFab Decrypter works even easier for doing that!

Yes. You should be able to do that.. ether from a VCR or even the video cameras output (RCA).

You can have audio too.

Get an RCA to stereo jack cord (they make them for MP3 players) or maybe if your playing the video from a camcorder a stereo jack to stereo jack cord. Then plug that cord in you computer line-in input on the soundcard (where the speaker and microphone jacks are located).

Don't use the VanGuard software... use Microsofts Movie Maker (it's free) and likely already installed on your PC (if not download it from the Microsoft Site.

In Movie Maker configure your input sources (the VA12A and your soundcards line-in). Do a few tests before jumping in whole-hog. Do on-line searches to find additional video editing info. Have FUN.

I don't want to burst the X10 bubble here, but for the money spent on a VA12A, I think you can score better quality video on a cheap DVR card.

I've never gone that route myself, but have tried the VA12A to rip VHS to HD and wasn't totally pleased.  Then again, I strive for perfection, and those old VHS-C's aren't getting any younger or brighter.

I've got a Sabrent usb tv-tuner (very cheap) which I connect my platinum wireless x10 video/audio sender/receiver to, and the quality is quite good. You can transfer pretty much anything to your HD this way and the picture quality is pretty decent. I just want to try the new VA12A to see if it's that's much better than the old one, and who knows, maybe even better than the Sabrent? Time will tell.
