WS467 module turns light on slowly
« on: May 13, 2010, 08:18:41 PM »

I have a WS4 67  Wall dimmer module that has started to act strange. When I turn the light on remotely it comes up to maximum brightness slowly. Sometimes it comes on to mid brightness. I have it programmed to 100% power. Also, when I put in test mode this light will not cycle but other lights with the same letter  and number setting function correctly. I swapped out the module but it didn't help.  The light in question is a 60 watt bug light.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Carl

Sounds normal.

Could it be you are seeing "Soft Start" and "Resume Dim" features for the first time? "Soft Start" brings the bulb on slowly to extend bulb life, and "Resume Dim" brings the light on to the same brightsnes as previously set. So if someone DIMS the light at the switch to half bright, the next time it is turned ON it will slowly come up to half bright.

After reading the links posted in response to my post, it looks like my WS467 is operating as designed. Too bad they couldn't have covered it in the  new documentation. Are the previous modules available?

TIA,

Carl

I doubt X10 would have any as the change was in 2007 as indicated in the links web page.
I doubt any independent X10 dealers would have any, but they might.
Lots of us got surprised by the Lamp Module also.

Your best chance to find the older version is from users who are selling off excess devices.  I may have  some myself, but would have to check the version.  You can contact me privately if you want to pursue that.

Since you are running AHP, use the LM14A and WS4777 (no longer made) to properly control Soft-Start modules.

Thanks everybody,

Now that I understand the situation I am dealing with, things look brighter (no pun intended). I will explore using the alternate module types and see how I make out.

Stay tuned,

Carl
