New software: iMeterX10 (freeware)
« on: June 29, 2010, 06:39:06 PM »

I added an option to count the number of operations......

To download my software, here is the link. I have also attached a small tutorial for those who are not familiar with MegaUpload.com.

Several people have tried my program. Is it possible to know if it works well. I installed XP on a Vista and three, and it worked perfectly.

Thank you very much.

;D No news is good news ...

For my home automation system, for every dollar spent, I want to save one dollar. For my hot water tank, iMeterX10 allowed me to quantify the electrical losses. The measurement meters, cost $ 25 (powerflash + current transformer). I save $ 45 per year in electrical losses. My payback is 6 months.

In 10 years, I'll save over $ 450

iMeterX10 helps me make decisions. For example, I could decide to put OFF my hot water tank when there's nobody home. In Quebec, the electricity is less expensive compared at other country. iMeterX10 allowed me to estimate the losses at $ 0.13 each day. In addition, there may be risks to health to keep the water at lower temperature periodically ---> http://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/diseases/legion.html.

I also use iMeterX10 to program heating thermostats. Heating my house in winter costs me about $ 500, compared to $ 1,000 or more for similar houses in the same region.

I made changes to iStatX10. It is now possible to draw graphics, printing, etc..

Here is the link to download the update: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TG622GF1

I changed my software to calculate statistics for each hour of the day. It works well with the dates and time in the metric format (00:00:00, 01:00:00, ..., 13:00:00, 14:00:00, ..., 23:00:00). I would check if it works with dates and time in U.S format (12:00:00 AM, 01:00:00 AM, ..., 01:00:00 PM, 02:00:00 PM...). Please, if someone can send me the file HistoriqueX10.txt in the format U.S.

Thank you very much.

Revision 2 iMeterX10 is available.

Revision 2:

1. iStatX10 incorporated to iMeterX10
2. New algorithms (calculations much faster)
3. Added -> Statistics every hour a year, one month, one day
4. At startup, icon in the tray, right click to open or close the program

Last year I added 4 inches of insulation in the attic. With iMeterX10 it is possible to calculate the electricity savings by comparing the coldest day of 2009 with the coldest day of 2010. :)%

Attached two files showing the heating profile for these 2 days. ;D

I have an other example.

This year I added insulation to the pipes of the hot water tank (a big project that cost me about $ 5 and I've saved nearly $ 30 per year in electricity). ImeterX10 allows me to calculate power losses before and after work. On June 26, 2009 and 2010 there was nobody at home for 3 days.

The other chart to calculate the cost of a shower of a teenager (see 7 AM). For adults, see the chart at 6 AM.  Very interresting…….

iMeterX10 allows many other interesting calculations that can help us save lots of money.

So how do you count or time the cycles? This app sounds really nice... particularly as we approach heating season.

Sorry for my poor English.  :(

I am french people but I'm working to improve my English. ::)

For my heater and my hot water tank, I use a current transformer and a powerflash. I plug every powerflash at the transformer secondary, and I turn the AC voltage into DC with a bridge and a small capacitor.

For the number of cycles, when the powerFlash turns ON, iMeterX10 stores the address and time in the memory of PC. When powerflash turn OFF, iMeterX10 calculate time of operation, the start time and end time and stored everything in the file the HistoriqueX10.txt .

For the number of operations,  iMeterX10 records each state ON and the time recorded in the file HistoriqueX10.txt.

Your English reads better than mine (and it's all I speak). Your software sounds good to me.

This software seems like an ideal answer to my power metering needs.  Unfortunately, as I'm not a EE by training, I'm not sure how to implement the current transformer -> power flash setup.  Could the OP or anyone else who understands how to construct this setup please post a schematic and/or photos?  I'm trying to reduce a painful electricity bill by understanding where the money is being spent.   >!
