I currently have an ADT hardwired security system; that is, the door sensors, motion detector, glass breakage detector, etc. are hardwired into the control unit rather than being wireless as the X10 system is. As I want to eliminate the monthly monitoring fee charged by ADT I am considering installing an X10 system; however, in reading many reviews, it seems to me that wireless routers, cell phones, cordless phones, garage door openers, etc. may interfere with the X10 signal, thereby giving false alarms. To avoid or minimize false alarms, it occurred to me that perhaps I could still use my ADT system, but rather than it calling the ADT monitoring service, it triggers the PS561 which would then call the numbers I have programmed into it. Since I have never owned a PS561, I don't know if it is possible to use the output of the ADT system that drives the siren to trigger the PS561. I am unable to find anything online about it, and the contact I made with X10 didn't know either and suggested I go to the forum. I searched the forum but have come up empty. Does anyone have the answer?

Your hard wired system might very well be more reliable.
Your insurance MIGHT be affected by having a non monitored alarm.

But that all aside....

If there's an output on your ADT setup that opens or closes on activation of the alarm, you could use a DS10A, and just not use the mag contacts.  Have that trigger the PS561.

Since the hard wiring is already in place to your ADT system, why not just swap it out with another hard wired system that has optional security monitoring.  Here I installed a 16-zone DSC system, which has worked fine for 7 years.  There are other systems out there with a range of features and prices.  The DSC system incorporates a X10 output to talk to your automation controller.  Some of the other systems also provide a X10 interface.

Read some more... the interference is generally on the 2.4GHZ (like cameras or video signals).... NOT the alarm device frequency.

There is no simple answer. If your good with electronics... sure maybe you can. But my guess would be that... INSTEAD: you can use the door magnets by connecting an X10 sensor to the wiring... wherever they hid the control panel. The motion sensor you could replace with one of X10's. X10 has likely sold more units than the one your using now. They do work.

I see three possibilities.

1 - You reprogram your ADT alarm panel to call your cell phone, instead of the ADT monitoring center

2 - Since all the doors are hard-wired into the ADT panel, take those same wires and put a Powerflash module on them, set to trip the X10 alarm system  (see http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Powerflash)

3 - Find an output on the ADT panel that sends either power or a contact closure when the alarm is sounding (such as a +12v meant for a strobe light, for example) and have that trip a Powerflash or DS10A module to send the X10 command to the X10 alarm console.

I just ended the contract w/ ADT. 
Still have the system hooked up and armed - it just doesn't dial out to anyone anymore.

Like other's have said - the interference issues are usually between X10 wireless cameras and other 2.4GHz devices in the house - cordless phones, you're 802.11b/g/n wireless router, you're 802.11 b/g/n computers.


In my case it was easy to debug.
If I plugged a one of my wireless cameras (NOT X10 branded but still 2.4GHz) in, and then dragged my laptop into that same room, I couldn't connect to my router.  Unplug the camera and I could reconnect.

Pretty easy to see the interference.

Have you found a way... an output that could operate/trigger a DS7000 which could then be used to (add to the alarm and) dial out to the users cell phone?

Do we have any security alarm professionals [Bill] that could provide more information?

Dave is again correct alarm systems use a very low frequency what's the freq Dave?? around 400 or something can't quite remember. But better yet and you can thank me for this you can use your existing ADT system they never come back and remove them and call the Home Security Store and they will perform the monitoring for 8.99 a month!!! that's what I now do. But I would still grab one of the x10 systems as a backup! a friend was trying to fix his door bell and crossed some wires and blew his DHS system similar to the one I currently have and sure enough he had a break-in ripped him off for thousands! so if he had a backup system at least he would of had some security until he could of gotten his main system fixed. I have a x10 system just in case never would want what happen to him to happen to me better to be safe the sorry!!!
