IconRemote Lite?
« on: October 14, 2010, 08:30:08 PM »

Does this new "Lite" version have RF and is it able to control x10 modules?

AFAIK, this is more or less just a basic universal remote with the LCD and icons.
It doesn't have RF, but you can control x10 devices using the ir543.

Thanks for the fast reply!

What's the ir543?

It's x10s Infrared Mini-controller:

http://www.x10.com/products/x10_ir543.htm

This is a quote from x10 from their Facebook page:
Quote
IR18/IR19 will apparently do X10. You can program code 0998 to your aux device and have it control X10 stuff through the IR543

Boy, the IconRemote LITE looks an awful lot like the Philips SRU4105...
http://cgi.ebay.com/Philips-SRU4105-Icon-Universal-Remote-Control-/230534583200?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35acee93a0
...which has been around for a long time...  I always bought X10 remotes because they also did X10 commands.  (not that I ever use them for the X10 commands - but it is nice to have that option)

I guess I won't be buying the IconRemote LITE...   :-\

@nybuck

X10 has been in the remote business for years (at least since the 80's). You may recognize them as "Universal Electronics Inc" making the famous "All for One" universal remote controls. They also do Motorola Digital Cable boxes if I'm not mistaken.
At any rate, the X10 remotes are developed in tandem with other manufacturers from time to time. Most recently, that has been Philips. :D

One of the AT&T UVerse remotes is also in the B4S [X10s ID Prefix] area of the FCC Database.

The CM15A schematics say Pico Electronics in the title block.

anthony -
I didn't know X10 made the allforone remote...  They are all over Ebay as well...

But as I said, what makes me buy an X10 remote over any other universal remote is the ability to do X10 commands.  Without that, X10 remotes tend to be more expensive.  Case in point, the remote that I linked-to above.  The same $9.99 - shipping included.  Why buy from X10 and need a $49.99 order to get free shipping?

When the forum members Beta-tested the IconRemote, the first thing they complained about was no X10 RF commands.  They got it, and the remote was a great remote.  (Then they complained that the USB port was useless, and it didn't have a recharge option, and that fell on deaf ears)

Oh, well   >*<

Agreed. I'm just serving up the "forum facts" anyways. Personally, I use both a Harmony 670 with IR543, and an Nstinct. Both for different systems, but they serve a common purpose.

Also, for clarification, X10 are *not* UEI, but they do make the remotes for them. That's why you'll see a lot of common codes between Universal Remotes. When it comes to manufacturing them, X10 is among the biggest.

Example? I set up my Motorola PVR with Cogeco Cable (Canadian company). I thought I recognized the codes when I got my Nstinct and started setting things up. Sure enough, they were the same, all the way down to the 99x series of override/punchthrough codes. I still really, really like the Nstinct though.

Me neither, and I sure don't see the point of x10 selling it on their website. I do however need a new pair of slippers...perhaps with an x10 logo emblazened on them...which might be more useful... :'

I know you're probably kidding...  but I would consider buying other products from X10 - such as solar panels, rechargeable batteries (Eneloop have been mentioned several times on the forums), or maybe even an X10 T-Shirt...  Perhaps with a catchy logo like "Automate your world with X10" or my favorite...  "Home Automation is limited only by your imagination, budget and what your wife will let you do"   ;D

Hey, I'd buy a pair of x10 slippers or a T-shirt in a heartbeat. I think it's a good idea. Whynot? At least there wouldn't be any phase issues!
