AHP fails on interface download
« on: November 08, 2010, 04:41:03 PM »

OK, AHP installation that has been working fine for years.

I recently purchased iWatchOut and as part of trying to get that to work X10 sent me updated drivers v236.  I also installed a USB v2 card to get the video capture working - but this has now all been unplugged to get my AHP working again!

Now when I try to download to the X10 interface AHP just exits.  I can clear memory in the X10 interface (CM15A), but it takes a long time.

I have uninstalled and re-installed AHP, but now when I try to update AHP via the web, it just crashes also.

OS = Windows 2003 Server R2.

Any ideas?  I'm stuck!

Thanks,

A

You say you have AHP version 3.236.
The current version is 3.296.
I would go here and update your AHP software to see if it helps.

OK, uninstalled 3.236. Downloaded and installed 3.296.  Still same symptoms.  Try to download to CM15A and AHP exits...

Help!

Try this:  Uninstall AHP TOTALLY (back your .ahx files first to another drive or removable media.  Then install 3.296 again without registering any plug-ins and see what happens.

OK, give me some more details on how to remove AHP TOTALLY?  I still saw the X10NET.EXE service running.  So tell me how to wipe it out completely?  And also how to isntall without registering anything (my previous registered AHP seemed to stick the last time)?

Thanks,

This will take care of the "core" files. There are others, but these steps are the ones you'll need to follow:

Let us know how it goes!

Go into the Control Panel and in ADD/Remove Programs find ActiveHome Pro and uninstall it. The uninstaller can be set tol remove everything including all folders AHP created.  Once uninstalled, use Windows Explorer to make sure all are gone. BTW, back your .ahx files before uninstalling.

OK uninstalled everything - including the X10Net service (used the "sc delete <service name>" command).

Re-installed AHP - still saw same crash with download.  Therefore deducted that my AHP datafile was the cause.

Have rebuilt (not complete yet) my AHP config (from scratch!) and all seems well.  So something got into my AHP datafile that the download did not like.

Next step is to try to get the iWatchOut stuff working - but having (before this distraction) lots of trouble with video capture device.

Any advice here, or should I post in relevant sub-forum here?

OK, I'm back to having AHP crash on download!

I added a few macros in.  Then deleted a macro.  Saved and download.  Crash!

So I'm back to where I was in the beginning - only with newer AHP software installed.

Now what?   B:(

Did you make sure your AHP recycle bin was empty?  I've deleted modules and macros but not from the bin.  If you don't sometimes they still cause problems.  just something you could try.

Are you rebooting after the crash?

Yes - have to - otherwise AHP doesn't restart.

After the reboot it reports the AHP crash to someone - not that anyone is listening!   ;D

I'll check re-cycle bin in AHP also - per post above...

Is there a known list of 'things that cause v3.296 to crash/not download macros/timers' anywhere?

Thanks all,

A

Here's what X10 says about 3.296: # Bug fix: Secure Commands not being shown in Activity Monitor
# Filter out unknown command caused by transceiver initialization
# Altered behavior of missing transceiver pop-up for simple video bundle
# Fix for possible crash when opening Activity Monitor with empty history

If that does not help,  Other than a total uninstall and deletion of all folders AHP created.  If you are using plug-ins, try not installing the entirbunch, only install 3.296 by itself and see it if it works.  If the crash occurs again, your .ahx files are corrupted you may have to totally delete them and rebuild every one.
