x10 lights randomly going on...
« on: December 03, 2010, 07:23:13 AM »

Something pretty strange has been happening to a few lights in the house that are setup with the x10 lighting, noone is turning them on however they are randomly turning themselves on. has anyone else experienced this with their x10 lights? if so how can you fix it?

The lights that do it most often are the kitchen lights and the outside light (which is not motion sensitive)

Thanks.

Motion sensors...?
Check batteries in the sensors.
Do you have a heat source within view of your sensors?
What's changed in your environment lately?
Need more info about your system: Activehome? version?
Controller? CM15A

etc.

there are no motion sensors they are running off the light switch module with the push buttons dont know exact name as they were in the house when i bought them, i did set the code myself after purchasing the house. Nothing has changed at all in the environment and as for ActiveHome im running version 3.293 and the controller is a CM15A.

Okay, in Activehome, press <F2> to view the log. Check the activity right around the time when the lights are
getting spooky. Can you correlate anything in the log to what's happening with the lights?
Got a neighbor with X10? :) Perhaps someone's sending RF signals that your CM15A is hearing. Probably not likely but...

dont believe any neighbors have any x10 lighting however dont know them all that well yet since we just moved in. looking at the log i see normal activity accept in the morning i see a random code and even in the afternoon the same random code. The code is "receive rf   A 00TV"
not sure what exactly that means but it randomly comes up. the rest of the code makes sense just not that code.
thanks for your help.

Do you have macros defined in AHP triggered on the wall switches?
I guess we're gonna need to know about those switches. Who knows, they might even be flakey.
In any event, run your X10 stuff without the CM15A for a day or two. Discon him, take out his batteries.
See if the lights go bonkers while he's offline.
What other X10 equipment do you have running...? TM751, RR501, X10 remotes. The seasoned X10 gurus here have
frequently raised the question: Do you have any remotes stuck in the couch...someone sitting on it, etc. :)

no i have no macros defined and no timers set however i did just set the timer for the outside light to see if it remedies the issue i've been having with that light since thats the one thats most frequent, we do have the keychain remotes however neither of our keys are with us when we go to bed they are left in the kitchen.
i'll try doing the disconnecting and reconnecting this weekend since ill be around at the house all weekend. also the other strange thing with the x10 is i got the security system with the window magnets and the main alarm receiver package came with 2 other sensors as well didnt hook them up yet, but when i press arm on my remote it just like chimes over and over and over again, i've asked about that before on here they said possibly faulty batteries but i put in new ones and the same thing happend, when i say i put in new ones i mean i put them in the sensor on the door and in my remote.

soon.

What revision AHP are you using?
The strange false RF message was supposed to be corrected.

Are any of the light acting strange on the Security Consoles; Security Light Address?

There is added information on the Security Console and sensors in the X10 wiki. If you have not found them yet.

the revision activehome im using is version 3.293 which was the one i was told to get when i bought the device it had a link to install that version not sure if there is a newer version or not since thats the last one i got. could those RF messages be the things that would affect the light outside? the light that is being weird is the outside light which is not tied together with the security console. ill check out the x10 wiki info and see if i can find an answer in there. thanks for those 2 links.

The latest version of AHP is 3.296.
You can find that here:
http://www.x10.com/support/support_soft1.htm
The A00TV you are seeing I believe was a "handshake" for CM19A transceivers that should be filtered out in the newer version.

AFAIK, this shouldn't cause any issues like that.
Many people were getting this in the Activity Monitor on some older builds of AHP, but I don't recall it doing more than just being an annoyance flooding the monitor with A00TV.
