X10 & Xmas

I have my outside Xmas light hooked up to AM466 wrap it up to keep snow out of it. I don't think they where waterproof. My Xmas tree is hook up to Lm465 its  you can dim your Xmas tree . I use X10 commander on my iphone think its easier to use than Activephone you don't have to mess with house codes on your phone.

When I use a conventional [indoor] module outside... I place it in an old plastic jar with a lid. It makes a nice waterproof seal. Much better than the baggie method.

Thats cool to. for me both my outlets or on the wall so i put a plastic over them.

Black and Decker makes an outdoor extension cord with an X10 receiver in it just made for these circumstances.  I've seen it on Amazon:

Thanks for the Link. I was not sure if anyone still had any of the B&D FWLROD modules.
It programs like a Socket Rocket.
Clicks like an appliance module and does not follow the All Lights On command.
LED Lights glow dimly when off. Like the rest of the X10 modules do with LED lights.

B&D Freewire products where an OEM by X10.

Modules where interchangeable and 100% X10 compatible.

Remotes and transceivers where not.
There hand held master remote could do all sixteen unit codes and the House Code was set on the transceiver and not inside the remote itself.
Registered like a security type and the messenger hub could also remember two scenes with up to four unit in the scene.

You know I really am almost embarrassed to post this. But as much automation as I have and as automated as my household is.... I have no X10 in use with my any of my holiday lighting. And we really do decorate for the holidays... Christmas included.

Maybe today or tomorrow I can put at least the outdoor decorations on a timer and a couple modules. 

Recently... while decorating... I took-out a deer that had been seen around our home for a few winters. I call this City Hunting.

I have one of these units outside on my deck -- and a spare I bought at the same time from Amazon sitting in a drawer.  During the summer, I use it and AHP to control a small fountain.  Around Christmas, it controls about 1,000 LED Christmas lights as well.  The FWLROD works very well and handles our extremely cold and snowy winters without issue.   I highly recommend the FWLROD - Freewire Outdoor Lamp Receiver for your outdoor X10 uses.

BTW, I've read about the issue of dimly glowing LED's when off with this and other X10 units and fully expected I'd have the same issue with my LED Christmas lights. I thought I'd have to add a string of conventional bulbs to the mix to solve it.  But, mine don't glow when off.  I thought it was because there are so many but I tried it with just one string and it works fine too.  I'm not sure why this is happening.  Any ideas?  The lights are just over a year old -- if that makes any difference.  For comparison, I temporarily hooked up a small string of other (older) LED's I have to an X10 appliance module and they DO dimly glow when the unit is off.

Anyway, the FWLROD works great and I recommend it.

I am considering mounting the head (or at least the antlers... it is an eight point) for my office. I have way too much spare time!
