New XCam Pro
« on: May 24, 2011, 10:02:35 AM »

I saw this on the X10 site this morning.
http://www.x10.com/promotions/xx30a_ed_xcam_pro_premiere.html

Does anyone have any further data on it?

When I looked I found no manuals published yet or FCC listings if it used a different frequency.

Well I read the whole sales page.  ;D
It uses a different frequency and receiver to go with it.
I did see a 5 GHz receiver in the FCC database but not with that model number.

Maybe X10 may have finially moved up to CCD pick-ups ( I hope) and 5.8GHz transmission(?).

Sales site does say. Will not interfere with a wireless network.
I am thinking 5.8 GHz myself.
There is a VR50A in the FCC database that uses 5.725 GHz-5.875 GHz.
Not the same part number as the one in the camera kit, but it does open possibilities.

One thing I did miss on the sales page. It says "PreOrder"

I just love X10's vague but suggestive marketing.

"A longer range with a crystal clear signal and picture"
"stunning wireless security video quality"
"Curious what the dog is barking at out back after dark?"
"Prepare yourself for crystal clear video"

Sure makes it sound like they have made needed improvement to the image resolution and low light sensitivity, but since X10 refuses to publish some meaningful specs, I consider it typical X10 marketing pap. yawn.

It certainly sounds great!!  An X10 Camera that sees through walls!!!  7 pages of  "how great it is!!!  The same X10 "it's the greatest!!.  We will have to see it for real to see if the "WOW!!! is equal to what is promised.

I am not on the Pre-Order List and will wait for real reviews. Not X10 sales talk.

Got questions? Ask a salesperson live!

( danielx10 )What are the technical specifications for your XCam Pro Wireless Camera System?

( Supervisor ) Hello, Thank you for contacting X10.com where the price has JUST dropped on the World's Best LCD Remote!
Click here to check it out!
- May I have your phone number so that I can contact you in case we get disconnected?

( DanielX10 )No thanks.

( Supervisor ) Afternoon Daniel. The new XCam Pro Wireless transmit at 921Mhz. The transmission range has been extended to 330ft. They are audio capable and are compatible with all previous X10 wireless camera accessories

( DanielX10 )Thanks, I'm actually looking for the technical specifications.

( Supervisor ) The cameras have a 310 TV lines resolution, power requirements, 12 VDC, 80 mA, operating temperatures -4° F to +122° F (-20° C to +50° C)

( Supervisor ) Minimum Illumination @ (color sensor array) ............. 3 lux Minimum Illumination @ (B/W sensor array) ........... 0.5 lux

( Supervisor ) Were there any additional specifications you were needing regarding these cameras?

( DanielX10 )Is the sensor CMOS or is it CCD?

( Supervisor ) CMOS

( DanielX10 )Thanks!

Wow, definitely improved compared to the estimated specs of the previous generation "X Cam". Is interesting that it has two arrays, one color and one B&W. 310 lines is the equivalent of a VHS VCR recording the local evening news, which is IMHO a good crisp picture. Certainly good enough for surveillance.

My surprise comes from the lower carrier frequency of 921MHz. However it makes sense in a way. Moving to up 5.8 GHz band would get it out of the WiFi and 2.4GHz phone band but move it up to the DECT 6.0 cordless phone band. 900MHz used to be a popular frequency for cordless phones a decade ago, but I would guess most of those have been retired.

I may have to get a couple of these, but I think I agree with Brian H, I will wait to see initial reviews from the first wave of guinea pigs.

The XCam Pro Users Manual is now on the X10 ftp site.
No link yet on the XCam Pro sales pages.

Near the bottom of the list.

I took the plunge and ordered the new Pro wireless camera system.  I received an email offering a special pre-order price which included an extra camera bringing the total to 4 cameras and a complete set for viewing on the computer and smartphone.  The price was offered at 249.99 with free shipping.  I also "Like" them on FB and saved an additional 15%.  I called their Tech Support and spoke to Tyler who was very helpful with answering all my questions and never felt like I was a bother.  The cameras do run on 900 mhz, they currently will not work with the 2.4 ghz cameras but I too saw something about upcoming software that might allow that.  Tyler was not aware of that.  The cameras are on their way from either China or Japan and should arrive in a few weeks.  I will certainly post here once I have given them a good try.

I forgot some other things I was told.  I am told these are the same cameras with a different frequency.  These cameras will not work like a multiplex system, you can only view one camera at a time but you can toggle through them all.  The cameras do no record until the motion sensor is set off, then it can send an email notification with snap shot to your smartphone.

The one camera at a time. Is the same as the 2.4GHz ones. Switched on and off by a X10 power line signal. To the cameras addressable power supply.

The Users Manual indicates it is printed for two models.
XCam Pro and XCam Pro WideEye Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Camera System.

The sales page also shows what they call a low light version.
