hey guys

i'm pretty new to the whole process. i wanna get a cm19a, a RR501 and an lm465. i wanna have full control over the system with the computer. I'm not sure if i should substitute the cm19a with a cm15a. i've found out that rr501 can send and recieve(as cm19a does).i'm also not sure if the modules respond back in any way or should i use a specific device to communicate with them.i wanna make sure that the lamps turn off without fail. also does anybody know if cm19a is newer or cm15a? the reason i'm asking is  i might use my linux server as the brain so i need to know which one is more compatible with *nix.

The CM19A can only send and receive X10 RF signals.
The CM19A can not receive or send power line signals directly.
The CM19A has no memory in it to store macros and timers. Also has to be on a computer 24/7 to work.

The RR501 can receive RF signals and send them on the power lines. It have its built in applance switch controlled by an X10 power line signal.

CM15A can send and receive RF and power line signals.
Has memory in it to hold simple macros and timers.
The stored simple macros and timers can be run stand alone with the computer off.

IMHO the CM15A is the better of the two choices running AHP.
I don't have any Linux data to add to this.

The CM15 is the newer of the two so Linux support is limited but not imposible.
as dhouston pointed out.
There are a number of other users that have been working on interfacing the CM15 for Linux ,so there is other software out there (look in the linux section).
Which is best for you only you can tell!

No. none of the X10 modules controlling lights, appliances, send status signals. Smarthome.com has modules that do send status when changed or polled.

i think i'll stay with x10 since others seem to be more expensive.
