System won't turn on but will turn off
« on: August 10, 2011, 07:52:55 PM »

OK - I have been fighting my X10 system for a while.  It has worked fine for about 5 years and all of a sudden I can't turn things on but the off works. The  Remotes all work fine and I have a phase repeater and all of relays I need. It seemed to start while  I was using ActiveHome Pro and and my mouse was causing two clicks for every one one I pressed.  Nothing worked after a few clicks.  I tried reloading software, drivers from scratch, reset my CM15A and still won't work right. I thought maybe the CM15A was kaput and ordered another - same result.  The lights near the circuit where the CM15A is plugged in work some time.  Also the all lights on and all lights off works OK with the CM15A.  I have tried plugging stuff and nothing helps.  Help!!! I am used to my lights waking me up in the morning.  Thanks.

Are they lamp modules or dimmer wall switches?
Did you recently up date AHP to the latest revision?
Are the modules soft start where they ramp on and off?
If they are not soft start and you updated AHP to the latest revision.
You may have to redefine them from the Older Lamps (No Soft Start) modules list. As the latest version reverts to Soft Start types by default.

Brian - The switches are both lamp modules and dimmers and the old type.  I will check to see if the software is set up right. Thanks

If AHP is not new enough to have the separate Old Lamp Section.
Then that probably is not the problem.

I have a similar problem, all was working fine until a couple of weeks ok. I had to have macros to make my wall dimmers work. Now all of a suuden, they no longer work for half the house. I am trying to trace what we plugged in to see if any addtional line noise may be the issue.

I have one of those plugs that you plug into the dryer to help "jump" the circuit panel.

Just weird.

I have a CM15A, a windows XP running Active Home Pro running everything.

Sorry guys, not as versed on the technical aspects of this.

So, if you manually turn the lamps or wall switches on, you CAN turn them off from within AHP?
What types of bulbs do you have in the fixtures?
Are they "SoftStart" or not?  (when you turn them on, to the "jump" to full brightness, or do they ramp up slowly (takes about a second or two)?
What version of AHP are you running?
Did you install a newer version recently? Is that when the problem started?

Noam (et all)

Some I can turn off with AHP, some I can not. I can use the "switch " in AHP to turn on and off but not the macro, but not all. The wall switches are a WS467 and never would automatically turn out without a macro turning them on (hope that makes sense)

Regular bulbs ( not the florescent kind)

yes, they ramp up to brightness over a second or two.

AHP version currently in use is 3.316.

the problem started a bit before I installed the newer version. I just installed the cell phone module for active home so I could work remotely.

the CM15A is upstairs in my house and has woked great for quite some time up until recenlty.

Here is another kicker.

My garage lights will not turn on with AHP, but if I turn them on via the wall switch. AHP will turn them off according to the time I have set.

Did anything else change recently? Such as any new electronic devices (or chargers - some cell phone chargers create a lot of noise), or CFL bulbs?

I have have a repeater I purchased about 7 years ago that plugs into the dryer outlet.  I wonder if maybe the technology is not suited for the ramp up signals.

The ramp on and off is built into the switch or lamp modules firmware.
Though AHP uses extended commands for soft start modules.

Perhaps the repeater isn't passing the Extended Dim commands properly.
As a rest, try re-defining them in AHP as Appliance modules, and see if the simple "On" and "Off" get through the repeater.

To the best of my knowledge I have unplugged everything new added, the CFL bulbs have the proper x10 modules. Everything was working fine prior. NOt sure what the deal is. I am lost
