Own server

Is there a way to use your own ftp for the x10 apps? The x10 server seems to be up-down alot.

I don't think X10 would allow it, but I might be wrong.

If one could use your own server why would you need x10?

Because X10 is a Corporation and would not allow it, unless you have a contract with them.  X10 USA does weird things.  My long time local X10 dealer sold Active Home and the CM11A, but X10 USA would not sell AHP and the CM15A to dealers, only sell it themselves.

I believe that the X10 software is coded to only work on their servers.

The question is:  What are you trying to do?

I know a long time ago, Geek505 set up a java based web page that allowed people to: A) view a webcam of his home, and B) control his Christmas lights or disco lights, depending on the season.

This project was done with the X10 SDK and a little know-how.

Which programs require their server to be online to work?

The ones i was looking at getting were

Active Home Pro
Active Phone Pro
MyHouse
Smart Macro

I'm a little bit nervous if i have to rely on their servers in case of them going offline

Thanks

MyHouse requires a X10 server to be running.
I also believe ActivePhone does as well but I don't use this so I can't be 100 % sure.
