Things to Remember
« on: January 11, 2012, 08:53:30 PM »

As the Christmas season is ending and the things are being put away, a X10 problem arose.  Usually a lamp sits on top of a paper cabinet (address A1) but at Christmas the cabinet goes elsewhere and the lamp goes in plastic box and the lamp module is replaced with an appliance module (address A7) for a small ceramic lighted Christmas tree (my wife does ceramics and other hobbies) and the lamp module goes away in the X10 box.   With end of the Christmas I forgot that the module was a appliance module, changed the address to A1 and guess what?   It won't accept the lamp module signals and won't light when the timer turns A1 on.  Dumb me, replaced the appliance module with a lamp module and everything works!!  The A7 Appliance Module is in the X10 box for next Christmas.

I'm guessing the lamp module was either being controlled with a "bright 100" or Extended Dim commands, and that's why it wasn't responding.

Appliance Modules don't respond to Lamp Module signals.  BTW all my lamp modules are old style (non-soft start) ones, I have one Soft-Start module. I've been buying old style lamp modules off E Bay add to the ones I already had with names like "RCA", IBM, "Radio Shack", "Stanley" and "X10 Powerhouse" on them.  I have one "Soft-Start" Lamp module marked with "SS" on the case so I know what it is since X10 didn't bother to change the number on them.

Appliance Modules don't respond to Lamp Module signals.
They do if the lamp modules are being sent simple "on" and "off" commands (which can be done in a macro using the "Send 'On' instead of 'Bright 100' " option.

The first lamp module was a soft-start on address A1, which didn't work right with the older lamp A1 has, so back to the X10 box for an old style lamp module, end of funny problems.  The soft-start module went back in the X10 box with its twin, both now have SS front & back in indelible ink.   I have so many old style lamp modules they will probably will be in use for years.
