Uploading settings to new computer
« on: September 16, 2012, 07:38:34 PM »

I bought a new computer that uses Windows7 and for years since I purchased Active Home Pro I have set up com;icated settings for my many modules that are stored in the plug in box. I installed AHP to windows7 without any problems.
Is there any way to transfer the settings to the new computer? It shows 'downlod' in TOOLS but I need to go the other way from the installed programs in the wall box to the computer...

No you can't read back the timers and macros into the new computer from the CM15A.

Hopefully you still can access the older computer. The files that end in  .ahx are the ones you need from the old computer.

On my XP computer. They are in the  C:\Program Files\ActiveHomePro\

That's why I recommend you backup your AHX files to separate media every time you make a change.  When my old XP PC died and I bought a new PC with Windows 7, I was able to install AHP and all my .ahx files were uploaded to the the new location, so everything ran as it was programmed.

Thanks both of you. I put everything from AcrtiveHome Pro from my XP computer on a flash drive and tried to open it in winmdows7 on my new computer but it asks me to choose the program to use to open it from a list that only shows installed programs. A few times I actually got the AHP screen up but it is a non registered screen and it will not accept my ahx input. I have uninstalled the program in the new C: drive on the new computer hoping I could start new, but no dice so fR.

Did you install AHP to the new Windows 7 PC yet?  If you did, it will be in the C:/ProgramFiles/X86 location as ActiveHomePro.  That's where the .ahx files go.

Dan, from which source should I install the AHP file. When I tried to do it from the flash drive I get this "Which program to use to open it" message. I have had it since 2004 and it runs fine on my XP computer and on it it comes up as a registered copy and it gives me the whole shmeer.
On the occasion I get it to come up in windows7 it comes up as a unregistered copy and wont let me do anything until I register. When I just go to the web site it wants me to purchase it again.

Frustrating.....    ....Ott

Do you still have your registration number email or written down somewhere?
I believe trying to use the Flash drive copy of AHP.  Windows 7 it trying to run the copy installed on the flash drive not the copy you installed on the Windows 7 computer.

If you can find the registration you maybe able to use the AHP installer program on the update web page.

Brian, I will try to get it from X10. The original purchase was in 2004 and who knows where that email is, sigh.

I had one more thought.
If the version on the flash drive was old. It would be before Windows 7 support was added and the latest would be needed anyway.
Found this in the X10 wiki.

If you still have the old computer, the registration for AHP should still be there.   Copy it and you should be able to copy it and move it to the Windows 7 machine.

Dan, all it gives me on the old computer is that ActiveHome Pro is registered in my name, but not the code that was supposed to be in the email in 2004.

try your order number. If it does not work add an additional "1" on the end.

Where would I find the order number? On a long lost email from eight years ago? I have to try to make it work because the new computer is on my desk where the USB connection is. The old computer is in my studio.

Sorry, when I read the line above, I interpreted as you finding the email or the packing invoice/receipt. You will probably have to call X10. OR since new CM15A will be available soon, you could always buy a spare.

Thanks, everyone. I decided to end trying to get this program into WIN7, instead I just moved the CM15A into the my studio where the XP computer is now and still serviceable and since I mostly need to access  the program to change when my outside lights come on in the evening as the seasons progress I will not be so inconvenienced.
