PTZ Pro Night Vision
« on: November 29, 2012, 09:57:47 PM »

I have the PTZ Pro monitoring the front driveway.  The night vision quality is VERY poor.  I can see a little red in the LED lights around the rim, so I think that its working, but the view from the live feed is VERY dark, and the camera motion captures to pictures are also VERY dark.  At this point I dont know if I have a defective unit or not, or if the product just isnt that good.  I dont see ANY option in the software or interface to turn LED on or off, or enable night vision etc.  The well lit times of the day work just fine.

Any suggestions on settings or tests would be great.

Maybe this test will help. In total darkness, put something two or three feet from the lens. If you can see it on the moniter, the IR illumniation LEDs are working.

I too am not totally happy with the nightvision... I don't have external lighting, there are 2 trees that block the light from the city's street lights that are on the opposite side of the street...so the night vision is mediocre at best, much better than the x10 day/night cameras ive had for 8 years but still not enough for night time distance.

In fact i have mine directly over the front door about 10 -15 feet from ground to camera, its good enough to see a black cat walk by, its good enough to see white paper on the ground, and its even good enough to see a persons face if they look up.. it wont be in color.

I may have to put either an external extra infrared lighting or regular motion detecting lighting, my only problem is foot traffic of people walking by will set it off constantly.

UPdate:

One the ipcamera tool there is a bright an contrast mode.

default is 6 for bright ... 4 for contrast

I have to put my camera on at least 10 bright to see the ground good enough but when someone is in view the IR lights them up really good.
