Restore Macros from CM15a
« on: December 04, 2012, 02:22:23 PM »

Help!!

My controller computer recently melted down.  I had backups but they were images and would not restore to the newer computer architecture that I replaced it with.

I had to rebuild everything from scratch.  I could not restore my .ahx file from the sector image.  I know.  It was dumb not to have file backups but what is done is done.

How do I tell active home to recover my timers and macros from the CM15a module.  They are still working.

Thanks,
Mason

You can if you get a new computer and re-install AHP on it.     I recommend backing up your .ahx files (where everything is) to separate media so it you have a PC meltdown your .ahx files are safe.

Dan, how do you pull the macros and the timers stored in the CM15A back to the computer?

You can't.  What I do is copy the .ahx files from where AHP keeps them to separate media so if for example the PC dies all the files are saved.   My media also has my registration code and all the versions of AHP.  My old computer died so when I bought the new HP PC I had AHP up and running before any other software.

Exactly.
In this case, the OP stated that they DID NOT have backups of their AHX file.
Your advice is really good, and I strongly suggest that going forward this user back up their AHX file(s) to separate media, but that doesn't help them with their current problem.

There may be another option to restore the AHX file, though.
It might be possible to restore the image to a VIRTUAL PC (VMware, MS VirtualPC, etc), that is set up with the matching architecture of the original computer. I'm no expert in virtual computing, but from the little bit I know, it might be worth a try.
