SC1200 locks up can't reset after power blink
« on: June 07, 2014, 08:48:48 PM »

This is the 2nd time this has happened. Now out of warantee. After a 1-2 second power blink off/on from the power company, the SC1200 console shows either Tamper 1 or Trouble zone 17. I don't have a zone 17 installed. If I try to arm the unit.  It won't let me clear the fault so I can't arm it.  Yes, I have good backup batteries in the unit. When I try to enter my pin, I get the error message. Also tried default 0000 pin and get error. I have also tried the 7,9,on,clear reset with no help trying to get into the "test" mode. The unit seems to be in some locked up state. My only solution seems to be what I did before -  unplug the wall wart power unit, remove batteries, short battery contacts to clear the memory, let it sit for several hours and do a fresh reinstall of all my (16) zones and remotes.  A real PITA.  B:(
A power blink should not cause this to happen.  The security system should be immune to this. I upgraded to the SC1200 from the DS7000 to get better control & features. Now this problem. Anyone have any ideas? I will call X10 but don't expect any help.

If you disconnect the wall wart power supply from the wall. Does the unit run on the Batteries? That would verify there isn't a problem with it going into battery backup.
My SC1200 never locked up on a momentary power blip. Mine just lost its LCD display. I trashed it. As it was over the one year warranty the old X10WTI provided.

Unplugging the wall wart  - no change. The battery backup is working. The display stays on and try the reset codes etc. I get the same results and errors. Anything else to try? I think I'm SOL!  >*<

Re: SC1200 locks up can't reset after power blink - Follow Up Solution

I called X10 support and they were NO help other than "do a complete reset and reinstall all" and/or buy another unit as the warantee is only 120 days. There is no sending unit in for repair.

However, I was able restore normal operation by doing something very simple....

I opened the tamper door, temporarily removed one of the batteries, then unplugged the power connector for about 2-3 seconds and plugged it back in. Then put the battery back in and closed the door. Then do an arm/disarm to clear the Tamper error.
This is a quick reset to save the memory settings and all my stations are still installed as before. My password was restored and all I had to do was reset the clock time. All back to normal. A big relief!!!

I hope this helps someone else that has this problem.   :)%

It is always nice to hear back from a user once they find a fix!
So many fail to do so which keeps every one in the dark.
A +1 from me too.
