The nightwatch is still working.
« on: August 11, 2014, 09:19:32 PM »

Back in 2006 I got the idea that since I couldn't easily see my driveway... having a camera to monitor the front of the house might be a good idea. Of course... back then the X10 cameras (that recorded "only the action" to a VCR) was my choice.

My current camera/monitoring setup is a lot different... and with better resolution. I ordered a replacement camera the other day. One of my High-Res long range IP cameras failed after a couple years on-the-job. But I still use one of my original Nightwatch cameras still mounted where I put in 8 years ago.

I like being able to view the cameras on my phone and having weeks of recorded video. But there is a lot to be said for the old technologies that just keep working.

dave w please consider this as "dues" for the Luddite Society.

Dues have been received. you are a paid-up member of the Midwest Luddite Society. We plan on a convention, but have not figured out how to notify the members yet. Can't use email you know.

BTW do you know why your IP cam failed? (water, lightning strike, bird poop, etc). Did the video fail, or PT&Z, etc.? Just curious.
Oh, don't tell the MLS as my existence will be expunged from the group.   :'

Please don't consider those newfangled carrier pigeon thingies. The poop plays merry hell with the canvas on my covered wagon.

Although my explanations may not be exactly clear, I do hope for slightly less cloudy.

... do you know why your IP cam failed?....

Well not an IP cam... but a wired camera connected to a DVR (along with my X10 Nightwatch) that is Internet connected. The "waterproof" camera took on water. The circuit board that holds the IR LEDs got saturated. And everything stopped working.

Understand, however we can try and "evacuate" the pigeon before sending.
