Controlling X10 device with ISY994i/Insteon and iRule
« on: June 19, 2015, 10:34:14 AM »

I have just got my home theater setup.  Most all of my devices will be controlled through IR, IP, or serial with iRule.  The lights are setup with Insteon.  The only thing that I needed to use X10 for was my amp which has an actual physical power button that has to be depressed.  For this, I purchased an X10 outlet that I could turn off and on.

I want to know how I can set this up to be controlled with my ISY and ultimately iRule.  Can the ISY send a simple on/off command via the Insteon PLM that it is connected to?

My ISY994i with a 2413S PLM can send and receive X10 power line commands.
I have no experience with iRule.
Have you asked in the UDI Forums?

Mostly curious. Any reason you picked an X10 outlet over and Insteon one?

It was a 20 amp outlet and I didn't see any for Insteon.  They had an inline thing that I considered, but I was more sure the outlet would work.  I still have an x10 remote control so I can still control it for now until I get things figured out.

I have also never seen a 20 amp Insteon Outlet.
The X10 one sounds like it may have been the best choice.

You may see a mention of an optional A10/X10 software add on, for the ISY994i. It is not needed to do basic X10 sending and receiving. It does allow you to show the modules in the Node Tree but commands can be in the programs with out it.

Smartlabs has been slowly removing X10 support from their Insteon devices but the 2413S PLM still supports X10 and I suspect it will in the future.
If they ever start making their Serial PLM based on the HUB chassis. That could be a different thing entirely.
