I have rooted an Android device to run Linux and controlled X10 that way. But I noticed there are several Linux no root apps for Android.
This apparently adds a Linux widget to the Android OS allowing you to run Linux without losing your Android OS.
I'm just wondering if anyone has played with this approach before?
I have a new Android TV box which I currently use for streaming.
I'm planning on running HA-Bridge on it to allow Alexa control of HA things.

Since my hands are badly messed up by my spinal cord injury, I have no 'hands-on' experience but, given that Android is derived from Linux, it should be possible. And there are several positive reviews. Were I to do it I'd opt for the Debian noroot package.

That gives you nearly the same Linux variant that is the usual Raspberry Pi installation - assuming one hasn't installed Android on his Pi, that is.

I've try the package you linked to on my airpad without success. Others load on my airpad but not the required pagages

The Debian noroot app does appear to load ok on my TV box which is where I want it anyways.
I was unaware that it is close to the same variant that is on the usual raspberry pi.

Having looked into installing Android on a Pi, I wonder if one could then install Debian noroot on Android running on a Pi.

Would that be like using Wine inside a VM Linux on Windows?

The Debian Noroot install on my Android TV box was the easiest Linux install I've ever  done
It is a big play store download and takes a while to install but it only took two mouse clicks.

I never did follow through with this on my Android box and ended up deleting the app.
Part of the reason was the need to have the RM Bridge running which used the Android side.
With the new release of the HA-Bridge the requirement of having the RM Bridge running for IR control is now gone.

I plan to revisit this today  and attempt to put Debian Noroot on my Android MK802 TV stick.
I had a Ubuntu boot SD card for the MK802 at one time with Homegenie on it but that SD card got used for something else and I can no longer find the image file for it to remake the boot disk.
I was able to find a disk image but it was of a old version of linux which updates for were no longer available thus I was unable to install any thing additional.
Hopefully the Debian Noroot app will allow me to do what I want.

Well that's not going to work on my MK802
It ran out of room installing packages
I had thought I could utilize the SD card but I guess not.
