We had a huge electrical (lighting) storm a couple weeks ago. I lost an abundance of electrical equipment in a similar storm a few years ago. Concerned about both a limited number of older and new supply of HA products.... I shut down everything on my shelving unit where my HA is centralized. The Hard Drive on my CCTV DVR... never restarted.
The new security camera DVR units are awesome. And I don't know how they sell them so cheap. So I replaced the entire unit instead of just the hard drive. And the new cameras are High Definition too... very clear. set-up easy too.
I still had one old X10 NightHawk(?) black & white, hard-wired, camera in service. My last one!
It served a special purpose... being behind glass (a camera with IR lights would had been more of a nuisance than a help). And needing a floodlight to be on to get a picture... confirmed that the floodlights motion sensor was triggered. And the little X10 camera was so tiny... it was easy to hide.
I hated to see the old X10 camera go.
