Wow. I thought the simple solution (for something like 79% of car thefts) was NOT leaving the key in the ignition.

I mean who in their right minds... is going to stand in direct view of my security camera (and my neighbors) with an accomplice (who has to be equality as dumb)..... with THIER OWN CAR PARKED OUT FRONT trying to locate my PKE key radio signal. When they could easily walk to the hospital, golf course, or a local bar or restaurant.... and merely drive away with one of the cars with the keys left in the ignition.

I haven't done extensive research, but my quick google results suggest 5-7% of car thefts (reported, so unreported could increase that number) were due to keys being left in the vehicle.  I can't say anything because I leave my keys in my vehicle up to 4 days a week when I go to the park to run.  I am always within eye sight of the vehicle, but I don't pay attention so it wouldn't take much to jump in and drive away if they were calm and didn't squeal on the way out.   :'

I haven't done extensive research.....

My research showed a much higher percentage (79%). But what's the difference. Car thieves are mostly young, uneducated, and easily caught (and jailed). Like ALL crime.... it's a dead end job.... that will pay for the illegal drugs needed (until the cops get you). Many (if not most) people in prison don't even remember committing the crime they were charged with.
