Smartenit servers
« on: March 24, 2025, 10:25:21 PM »

Can someone please remind me how to check if the Smartenit servers are down?

Alexa/Smartenit quit and after disabling skill in Alexa, I cannot reenable...Alexa keeps saying 'Unable to link the skill at this time'

Thanks!

Server is down since last night. App and Alexa Skill not working.  They usually get it back up within a day or two.  I've sent emails to the owner and left phone messages this morning.

Well this sucks....Smartenit Harmony P2 worked like a dream

Anyone have a suggestion for a different 'plug and play' setup to integrate Alexa and X-10 for us simple minded folks?

If the company has closed and our Harmony's become doorstops, there IS an easy & relatively cheap ($35) alternative that I already have working.  The Broadlink RM4 Pro at the link below supports X10 RF codes. The RM4 Pro is essentially a learning remote with an Alexa Skill.
The RM4 Pro will learn RF codes from an HR12A which can be triggered by Alexa commands.  I use a CM15A as a multi-housecode receiver which sends X10 just like the Harmony.

Broadlink has released several apps over the years instead of just updating the original app. All still work with my X10 devices and Alexa. The Broadlink web site links to the Magic Home app, an app I’ve not used yet. But it appears it is not new but newly updated. >!

I was just searching for this same issue.  I had found online that Smartenit was down to 3 employees at some recent time, not a good thing.  Their website no longer has any available gateways, just some control hardware so also a sign of death.  Thank you both brobin and Tuicemen for the Broadlink solution.

It's disappointing that they didn't at least put something on their website or VM message about closing (if they did) and just left everyone wondering.

I've reached out to the owner of Smartenit to see if there's an opportunity to take over support of the Harmony server if it makes sense.

QUESTION TO ALL:
If we could take over running the Harmony server (it runs on AWS) how much would you pay per year to subscribe?

I'd be willing to take this on if enough users could make it a break even proposition.

Hi Brobin

I would be interested, not sure on the yearly pricing though.

I just tested the Magic Home app with my old rm pro sadly it doesn’t  work with it  but the Broadlink Universal-TV-Remote app still does still does.

I've had my Harmony P2 for over 5 years.  I worry that it or the PLM module will suffer some sort of electrical failure soon.  I was already experiencing lockups about once a month where the Harmony would lose contact with the PLM module, requiring a disconnect / reconnect of the USB cable to correct while both powered.  That affected both the app and Alexa skill giving good responses but nothing happening with the PLM.  That said, I would not want to invest more than $10 a year, especially if the Broadlink solution solves the Alexa part.  I already have the WM100 as a backup for timers and phone app control.  Just that the wife likes (and misses) the Alexa part.

Also didn't Smartenit require some type of account to log in?

You do need a Smartenit account but, worst case, a new account would be required.  The whole thing is a long shot but I figured it wouldn't hurt to see if it's possible.  In addition to the Alexa function I've been using the Harmony to send emails/texts as my Stargate can only send email for about an hour after rebooting the WebX.  But I can do that with my Yolink hub too so not a big deal.

What's interesting is that, although the Harmony can no longer connect to the server, I'm still getting a daily email from it at Sunset each day as scheduled.

UPDATE!!

I just received this reply from the President of Smartenit. They ARE still in business!!

Received today:

The problem has been identified as an inadvertent change of resources in AWS. We are working on a fix and hope to be up by tomorrow at the latest.

Thank you for your patience during this inconvenience.
