New offer from x10 !! No more RMAs
« on: July 22, 2005, 09:38:59 PM »

I've been waiting on the sidelines for a
reliable AHP product before buying in.  I've
been waiting for almost a year.  Week after
week I see "I-give-up" posts and "Send-me-
an_RMA" requests.  These posts do not
inspire confidence in the product.  It
occurs to me that X10.com may want to start
marketing this product in a different manner.

Hey X10.com!  How about you start sending
out the AHP module and software for free.
Then when you come up with a combination of
hardware and software that is reliable, I'll
send you the $50.

Deal?

What's not reliable?   I have been using X-
10 for over a decade ... with Active Home
and Active Home Pro.

Do you have a specific issue or are you
just another whiner?

Their products are so cheap if you cannot
afford them then you won't be able to
afford ANY solution.

Most of the user posts here can be answered
easily by "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS".

I don't think cost is really the issue as
much as what you get for your money.  If
quality sucks, any amount is too much.  Same
goes for functionality.  Unfortunately I find
both of these areas a problem with X10
products.  Now to be fair I have not
purchased the Vangard Camera, but that's like
comparing a Yugo (XCAM-$99 for 3) to a
Corvette (Vanguard-$1459 for 3).  I'm kind
looking for the Ford Taurus right in the
middle somewhere.

"What's not reliable?"

AHP still has too many bugs for me to
recommend it, or to upgrade to the security
camera package.

The CM15A RF reception of signals from the
stick on wall switches is terrible (about
six feet at best).

Sometimes the macros and timers work
correctly, and sometimes they don’t. Some
work reliably all the time, and some
consistently fail to work.

I haven't found any bugs in it ...

And quality?  Are you kidding?  The quality
is amazing ... do you know how much it
would cost to get a non-X10 system with
multiple cameras that have that good a
picture and that good sound pickup?  That
you can monitor from any TV and computer in
the house, and even remotely through
the 'net?

People that visit are blown away when they
see the cameras switching as you walk
around the house, lighting up the way as
you go, and then watching me turn on lights
in the house through the 'net as we move
the Ninja camera around from a different
city.

Sheesh, what do you guys want?  Get another
transceiver and place it in the room you
are having trouble sending the signal
on ... or use a remote.

I just want more of the bugs fixed. I look
forward to each update with great
anticipation.

It would be great if I didn't have to use
transceivers. I'm currently using a number
of TM751's. I may try adding an RF amp to
the CM15A, or go for a standalone RF
receiver.
