Smart Macros and AHP
« on: August 01, 2005, 11:05:02 AM »

I've had the new AHP and CM15A for about 6
months now and has been working somewhat
okay. I have tried to use Macros, but it
really has not worked the way I want.  It
might be because I don't really understand
Macros that clearly.  I am considering
buying the Smart Macros to hopefully make it
easier for me to set up Macros, but with all
the negative feedback about AHP and the
CM15A, I am a bit reluctant to fork out
another 50 bucks for something that won't
work. And I don't want to hear about it
being free if I buy 50 dollars worth of
stuff.
Can anyone tell me if Smart Macros are worth
buying.  Is there a way to get Smart Macro
for like a 30-day-trail?

Mario,
I use smart macros and they work for me.  I
use the macro's to send an ON to a
Motion/Flood at dusk +20 min, turn bath
lights on and dim to approx 30% if it is
after 11pm and before 5am, a few other fun
things.  Everything seems to work as
expected.  My only complaint is that the
CM15A does not seem robust/fast enough to
handle 2 or more motion detector signals
receive at or near the same time.  That
forces me to wait another 8 seconds for a
motion det cycle or turn the light on
manually.  BUT...all the macros and timers I
have set up do function and I have enjoyed
having the option of controlling at a more
sophisticated level than with just timers.
I even use the X10Dispatch program to send
audible announcements at certain times or
unpon detected conditions.  All this works ok
too... So far I am happy EXCEPT for the
response mentioned above.  Let us know how it
goes if you decide to purchase.
Regards,
SteveRF

p.s. I am sure there are others that will
offer different opinions but it is nice to
hear all options and comments.

SteveRF,
Thanks for your thoughts, and I welcome any
and all comments (good or bad). I'm glad
it's working for you. Just wish there was a
way to get a trail version to test and try
for like a month or so to see for myself.
Don't realy want to buy and go through the
return process. I'm already stuck with the
AHP and the CM15A with all its bugs.  I hate
being a beta tester. X10 should have
included the Smart Macros with the Active
Home PRO, to make it truly "PRO" and have
both actualy work,  and as advertised.

Mario,
I have to admit, my first CM15A was a total
mess.  It would not function reliably for
more than several hours after being
disconnected from the PC.  After receiving a
"diag" unit replacement, most of the problems
went away.  I am calling it a diag unit but
am really not sure about that...never did any
diags and was never asked for any input.
