I purchased the 9100 sometime ago and used it
with the x-10 cm11 controller.  It worked
fine no problems encountered.  I upgraded and
purchased a cm15 and never could get the 9100
to work in timed mode.  It works ok from the
Activehome pro interface but not the timers.
I see the 9100’s signal light blink on time
but it doesn’t turn on the 9100.  Did anyone
else have this problem?  I posed this
question to x10 but still no resolution.  Any
input would help.

Good morning Joe,



Unfortunately it sounds like a software
problem with the CM15A. If you are able to
control the ELK-9100 from the computer via
the CM15A then once disconnected from the PC
the CM15A should continue to control the
9100. The ELK-9100 is defined as an appliance
module and follows the commands exactly
according to the X10 protocol. Now when
disconnected from the PC if the CM15A is
transmitting some non-standard line signals
then the ELK-9100 may interrupt the signal as
noise and ignore the command. You are not the
first person to experience this problem when
upgrading from the CM11A to the CM15A and I
to have not been able to get an explanation
from X10 as to why this would happen. At this
time the only work around would be to use the
X10 Universal Module to trigger the ELK-9100
via a dry contact method. The external
trigger method is described on page 3 of the
instruction manual under “Contact Closure
Method”. Please contact me if you have any

I have found a better "work around".

1. I used a TM 751 transceiver set to house code C.
2. I programmed the ELK 9100 to house code C, Unit Code 4.
3. The TM 751 operates the ELK 9100 when I use a remote switch. (Slimeline or Palm Pad)
4. I programmed an AHP macro to send an RF command on code C4.
5. Essentially, the CM15A and the ELK 9100 don't communicate well. (I guess they need counseling  )
6. The CM15A, however, can send an RF signal which the TM 751 receives and, being a transceiver, it sends an X10 signal to the ELK 9100. Because the TM 751 seems to speak ELK better than the CM15A, it turns it on and off quite nicely.
7. I set the trigger on the macro to C8. If I want to turn my pool pump and fountain on indefinitely, I press C4 on my Palm Pad. If I want to turn it on and have it turn off in 4 hours, (or what ever delay I program in the macro), then I press C8 and it triggers the macro.
8. This solutions seems to work great...for now but I should tell you this. I was having some problems with the ELK not responding to any X10 signals. The TM 751 is also an appliance module. I don't use it as one and I don't like the loud "click" of the relay inside so I opened it up carefully and snipped the solenoid wire. The outlet at the bottom doesn't work, (I don't use it anyway), but I don't get the "click" when I use code C1. Now, when I opened the unit up, the antenna wire broke off. I don't know if it was a bad connection to begin with but I fixed it with a little solder and iron. Now it works better than before. I have great range and it "talks" to the ELK 9100 flawlessly. Just something to keep in mind if the above solution doesn't work.
a> Try opening the TM 751 and check that you have a good connection to the antenna. It's a strange setup. The antenna doesn't actually connect to the wire. It connects to a piece of copper that is glued to a piece of plastic that is pressed against the antenna base. Weird but it works.
b> Try cutting one of the solenoid wires. It will quite the thing down and I don't know if that helped me or if it was coincidence but there seems to be a little FM (Freaking Magic) when it comes to this X10 stuff.

I aslo have the same issue with only the timer function, which is the beauty of this technology. Hope someone at X10 is viewing this, seems like a lot of wasted time being spent on work arounds
