How to use a motion sensor
« on: September 11, 2005, 12:19:42 AM »

Can someone give a short tutorial on how to
use a Motion Sensor?
I have a CM15a, an eagle-eye outdoor motion
sensor and a standard x-10 light switch.
The x-10 light switch turns on and off an
outdoor backyard light. I have the eagle-
eye sitting above the door to trigger the
light when it detects motion at night only.
The Eagle-eye is set to the same code as
the light switch. What do I have to set up
on the CM15a to get this to work? Are there
other options? Macros I can write to
enhance this configuration?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Ed

You need to program the same house code as
the light switch as well, and then set
whether you want it to turn off after a
delay time, and whether it should trip the
light always or just at night.  See the
instruction sheet included, or download it.

If the cm15a is being used as the tranceiver
to process the RF signal from the motion
detector and send the X10 line signal to the
wall switch. Go into the AHP Program. Tools;
Hardware Configuration; Tranceived House
Codes and make sure that the House Code you
have the switch and sensor using is set to
be tranceived. If you had a separate
tranceiver make sure it is set to the same
house code.

Also, the CM15A seems to have poor range
for receiving the signals from the sensor,
especially an outdoor mounted sensor.  I
know I can't have the CM15A very far from
mine at all.  If it all looks ok and it
still isn't working, try plugging the CM15A
in an outlet not far from the sensor in
question and see if that helps.

Is the house code you have the Eagle-Eye and
X10 switch set to, "Transceived" by the
CM15A?

cm15a is not noted for long reception
distances. You may also want to try the
antenna horizontal. That sometimes helps.

OK, here is what I did...
I had a left over receiver from when I
purchased the firecracker special several
years ago. I then plugged that receiver
into an outlet close to the Eagle Eye. I
programmed the receiver and eagle eye to
the same house code. I remove that house
code from the cm15a. I created a macro that
when the eagle eye code was sent by the
remote receiver, it would then trigger an
outside light on a different house code
that is monitored. A little complicated to
say, but it works quite well...so well
infact that I'm probably going to purchase
several of these receivers and place them
through out the house with different house
codes and turn off all monitoring at the
cm15a and just use it to trigger macros and
perform timed functions...that is if I can
get this stupid thing from randomly
forgetting it's programming!

Different House Codes should be fine. The
TM751 is noted to step on line transmissions
if more than one is on the same house code.

I agree with Brian.  A better option would
be the RR501 as it has collision protection.
