CM15 won't execute commands/timers independently
« on: March 29, 2005, 10:44:38 AM »

I can initiate commands and timers from my
computer and the cm15 runs perfectly.  When
the same timers are set up in the cm15 and
the USB cable is disconnected, nothing
happens. Thinking that it might be line
noise, I installed a SmartHome boosterlinc.
The unit sees the cm15 send the signal, but
there is no response from the lights being
controlled. The controllers are all Leviton
6300 units.  What is the difference between
intiating a command from the computer thru
the USB cable to the cm15 and the cm15 doing
it on its own?

Sy - Are you leaving the CM15a where it is or
are you relocating the CM15a to a different
wall plug (eg. the other side/phase in your
house wiring)?  Do you have a phase coupler
installed?

If that's not the issue - and if you haven't
tried this already, try disconnecting USB and
removing the CM15a from the wall plug -
remove it's batteries - wait 5 minutes and
reinstall/reload/reset everything (don't
forget hardware config).  A lot of people
seem to be using this hard-reboot process to
fix flakey CM15a issues.

Sy: Do the Leviton 6300 units respond to
dim/bright commands? What kind of modules are
they defined as in AHP?

They are standard Leviton 6381 2 wire X10
switches.  They are listed in AHP's list of
devices. They have added features, such as
ramping up or down when receiving an on or
off command.  This is Leviton's description:

deal for controlling bedroom, living room and
family room ceiling light fixtures, table
lamps or just about any switched outdoor
lighting fixture. This switch gives you the
power to turn lights on and off, plus dim
them to any level, at the switch or remotely
from any X10 transmitter. To dim the light,
just press and hold the switch until the
light dims to the level you desire.

This switch also has a unique Soft Start
feature that gently fades lights on over a
2-second span. In addition to being a very
pleasant effect, it considerably extends the
life of your bulbs. There's even a Resume Dim
feature, which returns the light to the dim
level it, was set to before the light was
turned off.

The switch also boasts Leviton's
Intellisense® AGC (Automatic Gain Control)
for enhanced response to X10 signals. AGC
adjusts receiver sensitivity to help
eliminate noise interference and improve the
performance of your X10 system.

My question still is: why do they work when
the cm15 is hooked to the computer, but not
without it, even though the cm15 seems to be
sending commands?

Try defining your module as an LM14A instead
of Leviton 6381.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Same problem.  Timers to turn on Leviton
6381 don't execute if CM15 is independent.
Switches can be controlled through PC so
not likely a signal problem.  Any thoughts?

Do you have the box checked in the timer
definition to download the timer to the
interface?  Your description of the problem
sounds like you don't.

Yes, box checked.  Not a Rookie.  Have
cleared interface, cold reboot (removing
batteries).  Reloaded multple times.  Moved
interface to other location.  Have whole
house repeater / phase coupler installed.
X10 isolator / filter on any motors or UPS
in house.  Still, no love from the CM15A.

I've found that the 6381 is more sensitive to noise in the lines than other switches.  That is weird since it has the noise protection stuff.

But, I was having problems with CM15A triggerin 6831.  NO PROBLEMS using a min controller though.

So I moved the outlet the CM15A was in, and it worked.  I've noticed similar problems with WS467 switches, but not quite as bad.  In my case, I have a TV upstairs that I need to get on a filter.  I think anyhow.
