AHP and LM14A / Leviton 6383

There is a problem with AHP, and modules that
have the capability of RESUMING the LAST DIM
LEVEL.   This affects the LM14A, and Leviton
6383.

(It PROBABLY affects other modules as well,
but I can't confirm that.)

The LM14A and 6383 will resume the last
dimming level if sent an ON command.

The MACRO function of AHP has a SLIDER
for brightness level, which includes what
APPEARS to be "ON" and "OFF" at each end
of the scale.

However, sliding it over to the "ON" position
causes each of these models to turn ON at
100% brightness.

I have fiddled with the sliders, but can't
get it to send these modules a plain-
old "ON" command without the BRIGHTNESS
level.

Correction.  The LM14A turns on to 100%
brightness.   AHP is sending it extended
data to turn on at 100%.

The 6383 doesn't respond at all.  AHP is
trying to send it a Brighten to 100% without
an actual "ON" command. . .

The 6383 won't accept BRIGHT/DIM commands
when it is OFF.

AHP sends something like this:

A7
A7 Bright 100%

What needs to happen is this:

A7
A7 On
A7 Bright 100%

Until this is fixed, you won't be able to
turn a
6383 "ON" unless you add a dummy module at
the same address,
and use it instead.

The LM14A has a similar problem, but with
different results:

When you just want to send an "ON" command
to the LM14A,
to RESUME THE LAST DIMMING LEVEL, here is
what happens:

AHP sends out:

A6
A6 Bright 100%

(The module turns on, but not with the
desired result.)

What needs to happen:

A6
A6 On

Again, defining a dummy (appliance) module
at the same address,
and turning on the dummy module will fix the
problem,
but it is just more cumbersome.

What we REALLY need is an update to the
MACRO MODULE controls.   The functionality
to send strictly an ON command (with NO
dimming commands) needs to be added, while
still ensuring that the dimming functions
are still accessible.

Maybe changing the basic slider to:

OFF - 1% thru 100% - ON

The logic being:

LM14A - Unit A6

Slider position       Commands sent
------------------------------------
Off                   A6 Off
1 - 100%              A6 Bright n%
On                    A6 On
------------------------------------



Leviton 6383 - Unit A7

Slider position       Commands sent
------------------------------------
Off                   A7 Off

This change might come in handy later on,
if/when
support for scene-capable controls come
along.  Then
all that would need to be done is to add
a "Preset" button
somewhere. . .

Tigger: We've had on our to-do list a change
pretty much like this. I'll see if we can
move it up.

I also have hade problems with the Leviton
6383 and had to switch to a wall switch
appliance module to get the timers to
function and send an " on": command. It is
quite frustrating not to be able to control
the dimming. X10  - could you please put
out a fix for this asap as I am an
installer and my customers are not happy?
(THere was enough initial frustration when
i had to figure out how to ge the timers to
work.) This is essential!!

How does this crap get on the market
without testing? X10?  PLC's are easier to
use, and getting close to be cheaper in the
long run.
