sounds like a good idea... have you
considered just rigging a wired cam to your
ninja mount?  seems like enough slack in the
wire (and having it anchored well) should
work...

i'm looking for antennas only, one to send
and one to receive, from cameras that don't
have the antenna built-in.  i have an old
set of X10 gear and the antenna and camera
are separate, and need to replace the
transmitter antenna.  if i must buy a set of
transmitters and receivers it's okay.

Anyone know of any antenna mods for the
reciever. I have cameras that are 180 deg. from
each other

Thanks for that insight 2prys.  Me and my
friend were wondering if several recievers,
and transceivers would increase the amount
of reception. I was also wondering if I
could modify the reciever by adding another
antenna to it, such as a HDTV antenna.

For example, I live in a large, old, 4
story house (Basement, 1st floor, 2nd,
floor, and very large attic), and I'm
having trouble switching from the back door
flood cam, to my front door flood cam, from
where I have my TV set up on the 2nd
floor.  I guess the chemneys are blocking
the RF waves. I hope by having recievers on
each floor it will increase the ability to
pick up both floodcams, but I wonder if
only one flood cam will work at a time.

It seems that I read that X10 is more than
a name of a company, it is actually a name
of a technology that means it uses existing
house wiring to comunicate and operate.  It
reminds me of a product I saw advertised
long ago that said that it could turn your
whole house wiring into a large antenna for
your TV.  I wonder if that could be done
with the reciever.

Anyway, I'm an untrained electronic
hobbiest, and know I'm very ignorant, but
I'm enjoying playing with this stuff.
Truly I do have some serious issues with
home security, and surveillance, and
probably need to hire some professionals,
but I do love playing with it for myself.

Thanks again!!!

I was having trouble getting floodcams to
work and had success with a single reciever
located between the two.  I now have three
recievers throughout my house to pickup 11
cams.  they are all set to the same channel,
and all plugged into the same, single audio
video cable that connects to my VCR and the
video IN on my PC.  Whichever camera is on
provides a signal to one or more of the
recievers and the reciever puts the signal
into the network.  This works great and the
way my house is set up, was no hassle to
install.

Zap: Excuse my ignorance. you said you
have "three  recievers throughout my house
to pickup 11  cams.  they are all set to
the same channel,  and all plugged into the
same, single audio  video cable that
connects to my VCR and the  video IN on my
PC." i have been looking into doing the
same thing but how do you connect three
video/audio inputs inot one connection.
i..e your talking about a "combiner"? i
have not been able to find one on the
market. my video goes into the USB adapter
VA11A but it has only one connection. i was
figuring i'd have to buy some stuff at
radio shack and make my own "combiner".
since only one camera is on at a time there
would be no need to have a switch box.
hmmm. now i am wondering what happens when
i get the "iwitness" plug in. woo i love
this stuff!

any input is greatly appreciated!

Tim- that single cable that runs throughout
the house is a cat5 cable.  it runs from room
to room just like my phone with rca jacks in
each room.  two conductors are used for
video, 2 for left audio, and this leaves four
for 12v power for wired cams, for right
audio, or whatever.  some rooms only have a
single audio and video input/ouput (like
where the vcr is), and some have 8 rca
connectors mounted on a board i bought at
radio shack ($2.99).  one of these boards
(glued inside an outlet box cover and mounted
in an outlet box in my attic) has two groups
(1 audio, 1 video) of four terminals wired
together like a quadruple "Y".  here i have
two of my wireless recievers plugged in (no
other electronic equipment arount to
interfere) and a separate lead with three
anacondas on it.  because i have full x10
control over the cameras, only one is on at a
time, so i get a great picture and sound.  it
sounds like you at least need some pairs of
"RCA Y adapters" - i found that home depot
was marginally cheaper than radio shack,
although radio shack has a bigger selection
of lengths and qualities.
does that help?

tim- you may also find it easier to use the
coaxial lead on the back of the audio/video
reciever and make your connections with
coaxial cable and "splitters"

Zap:
thanks for the response. Yes it does help.
I forgot entirely aboutt the leviston
SMcC140 box i got. it will be perfect for
this. I can connect either RCA video like
you did or use coax (i totally forgot i do
have a reciver that has the coax connector.
i may just keep coax for sattelite/antenae
TV signals and use the cat5 since it sounds
like that gives me lines for the x10 video
as well as extra audiolines to run stereo
throughout the house. thanks again for
sharing your experience.

Hi

You mentioned that you are running your
cameras on CAT5? I also have cat 5
throughout my home....how can I connect
it...what adapters do I need? I was going
to just buy a dvr card and get bnc to rca
adapters

thanks in advance

Experiment (1)
Color CAm drill one 1/16 hole in antenna
pad and one 1/16 hole in base station
antenna pad. Ran 25’ indoor phone line one
wire to antenna and insert wire in hole and
then to second unit doing the same. Made
sure base unit did not receive signal
first. Placed each unit 15’ apart and it
worked even standing between them to
interrupt the signal. Next step is to give
it a try outside running a wire 24/4 or
speaker wire have to check as to the best
and price 50’ to base unit and see if
anything around the CAm is affected by
phones and such. Well give it a few days to
see what happens. If it works on one then I
think I well try tying all the lines into
one and then one line into the base unit
but I think it well not be able to read one
CAm at a time doing this but got try it.
Have to be sure to put a dot of silicone in
holes inside and out.

J. Fromm are you related to an E. Fromm from
the greater boston area?
there are a few ways you can attack the
connector issue.  i have both wired and
wireless cams in my system, so i have some
RJ45 connectors and some RJ11 connectors
between the wired cams and the rca jacks
throughout the house- wired cams come with an
adapter from the rj45 plug that seems to be
the most economical way to plug in the power
supply, and it has rca outputs.  using the
color codes given on the anaconda instruction
sheet, i ran my network through the house and
soldered on rca plugs, attached to a board
(as shown below), or went to a few "leviton
quickport" wall plates in key locations.  the
quickport alternative is rough because
connectors are about $5 each, and this adds
up quick in places with multiple ports.
another problem with the rj11/rj45 plugs on
regular cat5 cable is that they are really
meant for a flat cable, so connections should
be checked thoroughly after crimping, and
made so they can't move after installation.
rca plugs seem to be the most economical
connector, and HD has 1000' rolls of cat5 for
$50, so if you want to try it out before
investing in expensive more stuff (like all
coax or some kind of shielded cable) it's
cheap way.
also, keep in mind that the more wire and
connectors you have, the more interference
you will get.

Hey Zap! Thanks for your reply! No, I am
not related to E Fromm of the Boston Area.
I am related to an E Fromm in Ontario
Canada though...

I guess I wont mess around with any wiring
as I usually get it backwards anyways :) I
did get a dvr card (8 port viewgate 60 fps)
but I really got this card for my outside
cameras (still unpurchased) but I will play
with the x10 cameras on it and have some
fun with it until some more money rolls in.
I do have coax wire running from the back
and front of the house and my intention is
to hook this up to the main panel in the
basement. thanks again....

Have fun.  I wonder if it would work
placing them back to back when paning?
