I've been having fun with my Vanguard
camera system.
For the most part it behaves as expected.
Just as the ads say, you feel like a spy
satellite zooming in on targets from
space. Objects even a couple of miles
away are brought into close view. I've yet
to show someone the Vanguard system without
a few exclamations of surprise and
disbelief. (when i get time i'll take
screenshots of a sailboat on the horizon
and zoom in to illustrate what i'm talking
about; a tiny sail on the horizon can be
brought close enough to count the people on
board.)
The camera system can also be
disappointing. Wireless quality is
horrendous, even over very short range (I
strictly use the wire, which was included
in the purchase). Video quality at night
is disappointing. Probably most
disappointing of all -- despite installing
and reinstalling on various computer
systems I've yet to get the software to
fully function! Namely, I get video but I
can't control the camera from my computers -
- i'm forced to use the handheld remote to
operate the camera, which isn't possible
when connecting via internet. (i'd be
interested to hear from people who have
gotten the transponder to work as well as
the remote)
