I am interested in installing an X10
wireless security system to protect a
detached garage.  What is the range of
the motion sensor/door sensor signals?
Will a receiver placed in the home be able
to detect them?

You should get about a 100 feet from the
motion sensor to the console.  Do you have
power to the garage?  If it's the garage
alone you're protecting you can have the
console in the garage.

I kinda have the same issue here, I currently
have the protector plus system installed in
my apartment and would like to attach the
other door contact in my storage unit
downstairs.  The problem is I live on the
third floor and I highly doubt it will be
within range.  I know you sell a repeater,
however that really won't work in this case.
Is there a way I can use powerline controls
to act as a repeater?

If there is power to the garage, couldn't
she just get another X-10 transceiver unit,
set it to the appropriate house code, and
plug it itno an outlet in the garage?

  I didn't have enough range between my
garage and home to make a door sensor work
at about 100 feet. Metal siding probably
didn't help. I got around this limitation by
utilizing a coaial cable that I already have
in use for a video modulator. I sent the
signal back with essentially a small antenna
at each end, so nothing is directly coupled.
In my case I use a directional coupler at
each end with the inputs of the couplers
(DC9s) pointing at each other and the
antennas on the 9 dB down legs. This way
there is very little impact on the existing
use of the cable and even with the 18 dB loss
(plus cable loss) it works perfectly. If one
was to run a piece of RG59 or RG6 coax for
this purpose alone you could probably simply
strip about 7 inches off each end (so just
the center conductor sticks out) and simply
place the ends near the sensor and reciever.

We have found that batteries that are
positioned in any area where the
temperature goes below 40 or 50 degrees
Fahrenheit, such as a garage, will stop
functioning normally.  The cold seems to
kill the batteries.  In the winter, this
could be a real problem for an unheated
garage.

console, between all of the sensors in my
home was required.

Will the motin sensor on my floodcam
trigger my vcr commander? I have it set on
A1 just like my eagle eye motion sensers. I
thought the floodcam sent RF signals just
like my eagle eye. The floodcam is mounted
on my garage about 20' from my vcr
commander.
