Smart RF Repeater SR731 is pretty
expensive.  Is there a cheaper plan?

Not really, Unless you really want to put a
big antenae on the base station for better
reception.  But it may cause other
problems, as in radio interference.

I am thinking about purchasing this, 2 way
Transceiver Module (RR501), to hopefully
extend the range of the system.  I have a
detached garage that is far less than 100
feet from the base transceiver, however I
have aluminum siding which I believe to be
the cause of the problem.
Can anyone verify if this will work?

The RR501 is not a range extender, and
besides it will not receive the security
transmitter frequencies :-(

I have your Smart RF Repeater SR731, but
still am not sure how it operates. Does it
repeat the same code that it receives?
Example: If it is sent an B 4 signal will
it then repeat the B 4 signal getting the
command to the remote receiver?

Malcolm,

Yes. It repeats what it hears. Here is a
quote from the SR731 Web Page:
"It receives the radio frequency (RF)
transmissions from the sensors and
controllers, and repeats (re-transmits) them
to the receiver."
