Motion Detectors allow for pets?

I am considering buying an x10 wireless
security system with motion detectors.
However, I have two cats that live in our
house.  Is there a way to effectively use
the motion detectors and allow for movement
of our pets through the house?

If my 45 lb dog jump up and down or runs on
the couch, my sensors activate. I am still
testing.

My motion dectors came with instructions
and a "stick on" masking device that allows
you to create a "pet zone".  Basically it
masks-out the dector from seeing motion
near the floor.  You can also set the
switch that requires "double motion" before
activating (smaller things/pets are less
likely to activate in that mode).  It
reduces the chances of a false alarm (but
also reduces effectiveness).

Here's another suggestion, set the alarm
using the mode that ignores motion
detectors.  Use that mode for those times
that you need to leave the pets roaming
around.

I tried tape, aiming the things towards the
ceiling and everything with my 12 pound dog
and finally gave up on the motion detectors
inside the house.  A cat would probably be
nearly impossible to set up for since they
are up and down on everything in the
house...

tape a toilet paper tube over the sensor to
create a tunnel, aim sensor exactly,
experimentation works here
