ReX-10 motion detectors going off all the time

I have installed two ReX-10 motion detectors
(DM10A) near my two doors so I get a chime
when someone arrives.  The problem is that
they go off all the time.

1 - How far do these things "see"?  One
points out towards the road but the road is
about 75' away.

2 - How sensative are they?  Will a branch
blowing in the wind set them off?

3 - Is there any way to restrict the angle
at which they see?  I took the garbage out
once and set it off even though I was ten
feet to the right of the direct line of
sight.

I covered up the one pointing out to the
road with a dark towel to "take it out of
the loop".  The chimes keep going off.

The other one is mounted on a porch post and
it points directly at a shed about ten feet
away.  My office window is right above this
area and I can see that there is no
activity.  No wind, no animals, no nothing.

OK, I have covered up both motion detectors
and the chime is still going off.  That
leads me to believe that something is going
on with the transceiver or the electrical
system.  Both chimes are going off.  We have
a lot of other wireless gear in the house.
Three different phone systems, speakers and
Internet gateway.

Reading the most recent posts regarding x10
motion detectors....your experiences have
made my decision....not to buy one.
thanks for saving me the trouble and money.

i placed 2 units outside that control 2 x-
10 cameras. i got 6 hours of false alarms
(camera on) in 36 hours of operation. 1
detector seems to give me most of the
trouble i think due to a tree. any
suggestions?

I had similar problem with the motion
sensors.  It is too sensitive that it
triggers when there is too much heat from
direct sunlight, wind blowing the bushes,
wild animals like cat, squirrel and even
frogs!  The range goes beyond 75' as I see
it.
