MS10A Motion Detector Problems
« on: October 23, 2004, 07:44:24 PM »

Hello having a real problem with the MS10A
Seems to work perfectly in the 1 step mode
but I've tried 5 of these things and can't
get but one to work in the 2 step mode, (I
like the 2 step mode becuase I get absolutly
no errors). With all the rest except the one
I can actually walk up to them from across
the room in the step 2 mode and touch it
without the thing going off. I've also been
able to walk into a room and out again
without it going off. Wondering if anyone
else has had this problem hope x10 is
listening to look into this and correct it.
Really appreciate x10 hosting this sight
especially seeing that a lot of these post
are critical of there products, but to there
credit I haven’t seen any censorships,
actually I this kind of dialog would be
helpful to them in alerting them to
potential problems with some of the products
they sell and assist them in bringing these
problems to there attention and hopefully
correcting them. It can only serve to
improve there product line.

I have seen the same "situation". It may
not actually be a problem with the motion
detector. I would need more facts. However,
I have been able to walk through a room
and, watching the ds7000 lights, it appears
that the motion detector has not picked up
my movement. Once a motion detector picks
up on movement it may not continually light
up a zone on the monitor over and over. It
takes a few minutes for the detector
to "settle down". Try letting the motion
detector set for at least 5 minutes and
then walk past it. Make sure the detector
is "looking at the room" properly so that
it will see your motion. It should light up
the appropriate light on the monitor,
however if you walk past it again too soon,
it may not detect your movement. I just
tried it again and sure enough, the
detector saw me the first time I walked
through the room, but the next 3 times
walking up to the same detector it did not
flash or light up the light on the monitor.
Four minutes later it woked properly again.

Thanks! Trophy I'll certainly try it again;
I have 1 just one that works like a charm
walk past it and a few seconds latter it
lights up. I will definitely try what you
suggest, the reset on this thing is suppose
to be a minute maybe two I believe to
conserve battery power, what do you make of
it, can't understand why you would have to
wait 5 minutes. X10 are you listening???
Huston we have a problem.

It may not be 5 minutes. never really timed
it. Do they work after sitting for a short
while at all? Would they work well enough
to detect an unwanted entry in the room
after you arm the system and leave?

Hi T, well I tried it and it still didn't
work, this is why I hate Chinese
electronics!!! I have one that works so it
must be a quality control issue. I was off
the other day so I set it to “step two”
walked in the room at the day and I actually
was able to walk right up to the unit with
out it detecting me I know this to be true
because I turned the system on and it never
went off. I've gone through 5 of these
things and only one really works sent the
rest back except one because I need two. I
placed the other one in a room that’s not
quite as sensitive, but I repeat I usually
have nothing but problems with Chinese made
electronics. Take a look at the Active Home
Professional forum It's my understanding
that the software was written in China and
it's got a lot of folks pulling there hair
out over the bugs. To x10 credit most of
there stuff I repeat most maybe 80% works so
x10 if you must manufacture your products in
China you should at least establish so
stringent quality control standards, I'm
certain you can make it cheaper over there
but lets face it sometimes you just get what
you pay for!! x10 hope you're listening.

I had same problem.  Gave up and just set
them in position one and made sure that
heat and light did not false alarm them.

Hi guys sorry for the typo but it was
suppose to read "I set it to “step two”
walked in the room at the END of the day
(after 8 hours or so) and I actually"

Hi Dick glad to see I'm not alone I guess
it's that misery loves company thing :) so
what do you make of it poor quality control?
I don't believe it's a design flaw because I
do have one that actually works when set to
step two. Like I said had to go through 5
units! before I got the one. The only reason
I like the 2 step is the heat and light
issue. Thanks!

I don't know.  I cannot remember is I tried
actually setting the alarm or not.  Do
remember checking for the blinking red
light and could not figure it out.  Kept
thinking maybe I was missing the blinking.
Only thing i can suggest (maybe you said
you tried it,  did not re-read your post)
is just set the alarm and see what happens
on a trial basis.

Dick Yep been there done that :) I did in
fact set the alarm and like I said I was
actually able to walk up to the thing and
for the heck of it I was able to remove the
batteries without the thing going off, some
alarm system. It does appear to work
flawlessly if give the proper room
conditions on step one, but I have a funny
room with heating and windows that just give
you to many false alarms on step one, but
like I said I only have one that really
works, that's why I haven't bought any more.
Hoping x10 will way in on this I'm really
discussed it's a fantastic system except for
this and it really needs to be corrected.
X10 Are you listening??????????
