to bad part are not more flex able.
« on: January 17, 2006, 03:21:45 PM »

I feel that wall switches, socket's and most
other X10 modules should all be able to
drive Fluorescent type loads. There should
just be a switch to enable dimming functions
for incandescents lights. If that where true
they could cut their inventory in halve.
Only having one part to do both jobs. It
would drive the cost of appliance module too
it is most always cheaper to manufacture one
part then changing over and making two. I
don't know how much more there is to making
an appliance type module. Just know that I
am new to this stuff and it is tough to be
sure I get the correct parts.

The triac used to dim doesn't like CFLs or
Inductive Loads like low voltage transformer
driven lights. Both the module and the
device being controled could be damaged.
Appliance Modules with a mechanical switch
can control theese devices but doesn't dim.
I have done a mod to add a SSR to a lamp
module. It can then control CFLs and
Inductive devices. Again no dim. I believe
X10Pro makes a wall switch that dims
inductive loads, with restrictions like it
may hum etc.
