Message read marker for forums
« on: December 02, 2004, 12:22:24 PM »

It would be nice to have some sort of
unread message marker for these forums.

For the ones where I've commented, I get
the email when they're updated. On the
other hand I read almost all the forums
here and would like to know when there are
new messages there also.

I guess I could post a message in each
forum as a flag but that could become a
nightmare if everyone did that.

Here's what I do:
I use SlimBrowser, which allows me to have
multiple sites open at once. It also allows
me to automatically refresh all pages (or
only selected pages) at whatever interval I
want. I have each of the forums open, and
have them refreshing every few minutes
throughout the day. I keep track on a post-
it of what time I last checked them (ex: 6
am Pacific). I then right-click on each
entry that is newer than that time, and open
in a new window. I do that for each of the
forums. I then sit and read through each of
the threads, (only reading the posts that
are newer than my "last checked" time), and
I close each thread's window when I finish
it. That way, I'm left with only the windows
for each forum at the end, and I'm ready to
start the process again.
