Is there any way to control ToggleLinc
switches with the AHP software ? If not has
there been any plug-ins developed for these
switches ?

jerryray

I have two togglelinc switches. They control
ok and will go to the set level and when
turned on or off ramp as they should.

What is it you want to do?

randy

jerryray-I have a 23895 switch (on-off) that
controls a bath fan on\´1,no problem working
it at the switch and my palmpad and mini
controller turn it on-off fine, I have tried
all of the light and appliance modules that
seem applicable on the AHP software, but
none seem to work. I would like to use the
timer function with this switch. What AHP
module do you use to control your switches ?

randy

The post below should say "controls bath fan
on D1"

You should be able to pretend the 23895
ToggleLinc switch is an appliance module.
Are you using the CM15a as the transceiver
when using the PalmPad?  My first guess is
that it is either a signal strength or a
noise (or electrical pollution as some like
to say) issue, but if your CM15a is your
only transceiver then I don't know what to
say (unless your neighbour uses X10 and you
are unknowingly using his transceiver ;) ).

randy

Roger- I have some decorator style x-10
switches in the same area that work fine
from both the PalmPad and the AHP modules
(when I toggle the switch on the computer
screen )I have tried all of the appliance
and lamp modules, but cannot get the AHP
software to control the togglelinc
switch....I'd like to know what trick
jerryray is using.....

Is anyone at x-10 reading this ??
Will there be support for switchlinc
switches in the future ?

Randy (YIKES)

Well .....any reply from X-10....?
Switchlink support  ?????

Randy:  I don’t think X10 is paying much
attention to the wish list forum until they
get the bugs sorted out.

All ToggleLinc switches (except the Deluxe
and Companion of course) should respond to
basic X10 commands (ON, OFF and ALL_OFF) so
it shouldn’t matter what type of module you
set it up as.

Have you tried using your Mini-Controller
from the same electrical outlet that your
CM15a is plugged into?  My next guess is
that the signal strength is really low at
the ToggleLinc.  X10 products will be
designed (and hopefully tested) to meet a
certain specification, but some switches
will be slightly better at receiving weak
signals than others (and some controllers
will send a slightly stronger signal than
others).

Assuming you have a light switch beside the
ToggleLinc, try installing an X10 WS467 (if
you have one) in that location.  Being a
two wire switch, it shouldn’t be as good as
your 23895 at receiving weak signals.  If
you can’t control the WS467 with your CM15a
then you probably have a signal strength
issue.  If you can control it, contact
SmartHome and ask their advice.

Roger,Thank you for your response and help.
I have been able to control the togglelinc
switch with a macro / rf command and a TM751
pluged in near the switch....so I am
assuming I have a signal problem. Do you
think a signal booster might help ?

joe s.

First on the list should be a
coupler/repeater like:
http://www.automatedoutlet.com/product.php?productid=180&cat=0&page=1

It will both "boost" and couple separate
phases.  If you already have one (or a
passive coupler) - then I guess either a
booster or a search for noisy electrical
devices requiring filters is next on the list.

roger1818

Randy:  If you don't have a phase coupler,
I would go with that (I wrote a detailed
description of phase coupling in the
general forum).  A passive coupler is
adequate for most people, but if you have a
large house, you may want to use a
coupler/repeater instead.

If you already have some type of phase
coupler, then I would check for something
that is either generating noise or sucking
up signal.  Unplug (don't just turn off)
fluorescent lights, electronics (TVs,
Computers, Stereos, etc), power bars and
UPSes starting on the same circuit and then
extend out to the same phase and then to
the rest of the house and see if it starts
working.  For other circuits you can turn
off the breaker if you prefer.  Once it
starts working, start plugging things back
in and see what causes it to stop working.
Put an X10 filter on everything that seems
to cause you problems.

Only if you are still having problems after
all that (and you have a coupler/repeater)
would I bother with a plug-in signal
booster.  You could also give it a try if
you seem to need lots of filters to try and
reduce the number needed.

In my experience, the Smarthome products are
more finicky about signals than some others.
They have great features but don't always do
the basic ones.  It is disappointing.  I have
found that the Leviton switches (with
Intellisense) work perfectly in the same
locations where I had problems with X10 and
Smarthome switches.

roger1818

Kenny:  Thanks for your advice.  To bad
Leviton doesn't make toggle style
switches.  I don't like the look of Decora
ones.

randy

Thanks again Joe and Roger...I have a
Smarthome phase coulper plugged into my
dryer outlet so I will try the
troubleshooting suggestions. Has anyone had
any problems with ARC-fault breakers causing
noise ? I have four of them in our breaker
box since they are required on any line
going into a bedroom.....
