Really, Really, Really need OS Command
« on: February 23, 2005, 01:51:23 PM »

I have some places where I'd like to send an
email, play a WAV, beep the PC, etc.

It sould be *so* nice if AHP could have an
OS Command option.  Allow the Customer to
put whatever they want in there, AHP could
shell out and fire the command.  Don't worry
whether it worked or not - that's up to the
Customer to create a valid EXE, Batch File,
etc.

This is pretty easy in C++, Java, and VB -
so I would think it could be added to AHP
with minimal effort.  But, I know some with
flavors of C++, it's more of a headache than
others.

Anyway, it's the *only* reason I need the
SDK (for now) - and I really don't want to
re-write everything just to "beep" someone
is outside my house at night.  Or, play an
MP3 when someone is at the front door.  And,
no I don't like the sound of the X10 Chime
at all.

I have a feelling that others are in the
same boat.

Thanks for the consideraton.

There is a realy cool free program out there
a CM15A user has wrote that will do all that
your looking for plus some extras. AHP
doesn't need to be running to use it Only
draw back I've found so far is it won't work
with 98se but everything works under XP.
It's called X10Dispatcher and you can get it
and more info here:

I'll check it out.  Thanks a ton!

Back in my single days - I would have just
slung some code.  But, with two kids, a
house to maintain, etc. I've gotten lazy,
er, busy.

I know the feeling! if you feel the need for
something extra in the program feel free to
email the author If you explain your
reasoning and he sees a demand he'll add
your request in the next update. At least he
has for me.

I have been playing with X10Dispatch for a
few days. The only drawback I see of it is
that it will only send ONE e-mai/ MSN messag
per arming session, no matter how much
activity there is.

I agree what it needs and perhaps if enough
suggest it, is for it to send email only for
certain activity eg: a3 On . You don't want
your inbox filling up with x10 commands.
