I have a TM751 in the bedroom- periodically it locks up and won't transceive signals or control the lamp that is attached to it.  Unplugging it from the outlet and plugging it back in makes it work fine, for a while.  I also have a CM15a in the basement, but it is not transceiving the the same house code as the TM751.  There are 4 lights and a hawkeye motion sensor on the house code in the bedroom, and the CM15a runs a couple of macros for this room as well.  Is there something that I could be doing to make it lock up, or is it a faulty piece of equipment?

I had the same problem with one of my TM751's. It would work fine for weeks at a time. It would then stop working and like you unplugging it from the wall and putting it back in would cause it to work again. This went on for the better part of a year and then it just started to work all of the time and it has been working fine for about a year now.I never did figure out what was causing the problem. This problem was before I had my CM15A.

I'm new to X10.  Bought the following:

TM751 - controls a tabletop fan
KR22A - remote
LM465 - bedside lamp
LM465 - bedside lamp
AM486 - floor air cleaner

It all works great, but I seem to be able to lock up the TM751 at will by turning the bedside lamp off with the remote, then manually turning the switch on the lamp on and off twice, at which point the lamp comes on.  The units them seem to work fine until I turn the TM751 off, at which point the TM751 is dead until I unplug and replug it.

Is this normal?

TM751s are not the best transcievers they will lock up if flooded with on/off commands as they don't wait before sending a command. Noisy devices are known to lock them up as well. If you have the cm15a as well(some of you do) check the activity monitor for activity on that housecode it may shed some light on the actual cause. If the tm751 is locked up and you continue to see commands on that housecode then something is flooding the housecode with commands change the Housecode. If nothing shows try moving to another outlet as it may be noise locking it up.

Is there a better choice than a TM751?  The one thing I'm finding about X10 stuff is that the "how" is a bit hard to find -- this forum is invaluable!!!

The RR501.  It's a better transciever than the TM751. Better range.

Try Automated Outlet  http://www.automatedoutlet.com/home.php  They have a good price for a RR501.

I have been using an RR501 for years now and like it. It finally started to send out strange codes on certain addresses.
I rebuilt the power supply in it and it is again chugging right along.

I have two RR501s, one on Housecode A1 (it recieves signals from a Ss13A) and one on Housecode F1 (a second SS13A). Neither has ever given me a bit of trouble.

No oddball signals, I have no timers on either, the lights they control have the timers. I read somewhere a long time ago to never put a timer on a transiever. so I never have.

What causes the noise that was mentioned above.  I have several X10 controllers and the TM751.  Some of the controllers work on some of the lights and the TM751 almost never works.

The response problems with the TM751 is what prompted me to switch to the RR501. Better range and always resposive.

My TM751 responds to the palm remote commands as it clicks on and off when I control unit #1 (automatically mapped the TM751).  It doesn't control any of the other x10 devices in the house with any level of consistency.  I have moved it to several different outlets with the same results.  I have the mini timer and it controls those devices very consistently.

Should I just throw the TM751 away and the palm controllers that I bought with them?

HHR124; The Palmpads do not control modules directly. They send an RF signal to a transceiver. The TM751 and RR501 are the two  X10 ones. Some other X10 devices also have a transceiver in them like the AHP CM15A and the Security Console in the DS7000 kit can also transceiver RF signals. Some other manufactures make X10 compatible transceivers. Like the WGL v572a that is an all House Code Transceiver.
So no transceiver; no palmpad use.

HHR124: Don't file the palm pads as they'll work with any of the transceivers X10 sells even the CM15A (ActiveHomePro)as well as some of the other manufactures as Brian H stated!

As the others have stated, get the RR501.
They have it at Automated Outlet for $15.99 a very good price.
That is what I'm using. I like them so much that I've bought a couple of extras.
I have one out in my garage, over 100' away and can control the lights etc. from the house.
The TM751 doesn't wait before sending a command causing problems while the RR501 waits before sending a command thus avoiding the conflict.

Note: You may want to experiment with the location of the RR501 and the antenna position for best reception.
The one I have in the garage is taped to a rafter and the antenna is horizontal. One that I have in the house is at the breakfast bar and the antenna is at about a 20 degree angle.
