CM15A Not Recognized
« on: May 17, 2006, 11:42:23 AM »

Greetings, I disconnected my CM115A from the USB cable to move it to another outlet and now when I plug it back in to download new settings AHP says it's not connected. Yup, it's plugged in properly. Any clues?

Is it plugged into the same usb port as originaly?
Sometimes that will cause the problem though most PCs see the CM15A as a new device when plugged into a different USB port and install the drivers automaticaly for that port.

Try powering down the PC then connect the CM15a and reboot windows should see it on startup and install the drivers. ;)

Yes, it is plugged into the same USB port. I did try to re-boot and then plugged in the CM15A and it still was not recognized. Then, after reading another post with a similar problem, all it took was unplugging the CM15A and removing the batteries. It was immediately recognized after that. Then I just had to download the settings again. Thanks for the speedy reply.

my timers will stop...macros stop..then when i plug in with usb. "usb device not reconnized"
i unplug it from the wall power and plug it back in(same outlet) and it connects to ahp and all my timers and macros work again.  this happens all the time.  im begining to regret being a contractor for x-10. i cant even get my own devices to work correctly......how can i sell them to the public!

Any time you get the "usb device not recognized" error, the process is to unplug the CM15A from the outlet and remove the batteries.  Shut the PC down.  Wait 5 minutes, replace the batteries and plug the CM15A back into the outlet.

Then restart the PC.  When Windows loads, you will hear a "beep" that a new device has been recognized.

Then go to the Device Manger in the Control Panel.  You will see under Universal Serial Bus controlers the remark "X10 USB Active Home(ACPI-Compliant)".  That means Windows has recognized the CM15A.

This has been posted several times here, to find things like this, do an Advance Search for usb device not recognized.

dan, thank you....but that isnt the problem.it is a symptom. when the cm15a stops performing (usually in a couple of days) and i plug in the usb, i get the error. every other time i get no error. this fault in the cm15a only appears when it stops peforming its tasks. to me this is a symptom. so now the question is what is the problem and what is causing this problem

If that's the case, you have some kind of Windows problem.   :(

Windows does not lose the interface usually.  Neither does AHP.

Can you tell us exactly what's happening and when.

thanks for all the attention. i am using 2 timers on dusk and dawn setting and 2 macros for lighting.( i am not using flags...1,15,16) i have no problem linking to the cm15a with the usb port and ahp sofware.
when my timers fail to come on i use the computer to turn on the lights(so my conditional macros will know they are on), but i get the "device not reconized"  I never get this unless the unit fails. a simple unplug from power and plug back in corrects this and corrects the failing timers. but i should not need to remove the power every day for this to work.
so the only time i get "device not reconized" is when the device has already failed.
as far as a window problem....the problem is in the cm15......it locks up and will not let the usb interface hook up.

The only other thing may be the batteries in the CM15A may be bad.  Try changing them (throw the old ones away) and see what happens.

The other thing may be signal suckers/noise problems, so you should search the forums for those type of problems. PC power supplies are nortorious for blocking X10 signals.

great minds think alike. already tried new batt. and without batt. i have had no problem with noise, prior to this cm15. and i also have a phase coupler repeater in my panel. i set up alot of x-10 stuff, usualy with pronto remotes.....theater lighting and fireplaces. i own a audio video sales and install co. y lightin and automation choice is x-10. even my alarm systems(ademco) use a x-10 interface for automation control. so im not a newbie to x-10. as a contractor, i try to correct problems my self before looking for help. (x-10 tech is limited in help anyway). so this cm15a is humbling me. i like the features....i would like ti include them more in my installs. but when you install a $20,000 theater and dont have reliability...well thats a good way to end a bussiness.
