New user: AHP software is acting up
« on: June 10, 2006, 04:01:10 PM »

I'm having some issues that don't seem to be covered in the knowledge base or the forums (at least, I've not found them).

Whenever I try to access certain functions in the AHP program, it either ignores me (but adds an additional task to the task bar) or it seems to freeze the program - depending upon the function requested.  I think I've got the latest version of the program (ver 3.203).

For example, when I try to register the program by going to Help>Product Registration... it doesn't present a dialog box but instead adds another task (which cannot be usefully accessed - if I click on it, I see the program blink but nothing else happens).

When I try to add or edit a room, the program adds another task to the task bar stack and also freezes the program (nothing will react after this -- the only way to end the program is to use task manager to kill it).  BTW, Task Manager does not report that ActiveHome is "not responding" but shows it as running.  Some other AHP functions act the same way (seem to add a task and freezes the program).

Can anyone help with this problem?

Other than that, I've managed to get the controller "reset" so that it is now recognized by my computer.  I've setup several older X10 modules (many of these are very old, from an early serial interface, DOS version of X10 -- I've been maintaining a 6hz IBM XT computer in my "computer museum" :) since anything faster overwhelms the old controller interface - that's what finally led me to buy this new CM15A USB device, download newer software, and start again).  A few test timers have worked in ActiveHome but I'm worried about committing to this newer, better device/software until the other abnormal behavior is repaired or explained.

I'm running under WinXT, completely up-to-date SP2 and patches, on a Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad T60 (Intel Duo) - attached to a docking station.

Thanks

Did you ever get a response to this? I'm having the same problem.

I bought the $99 starter kit, installed the software, and set the system up with a single lamp module. It works great for turning the lamp on and off, but when I use the dimmer control the light dims once based on the slider position I select in the ActiveHome Pro UI and then ActiveHome locks up and can only be killed throuh Task Manager.

I'm a computer pro and 25-year software developer -- I know a software bug when I see one! This is very disappointing -- even more so if no one from the ActiveHome support team ever responded to your question...

Has version 3.204 helped your problem?

I had some problems updating do to an overactive firewall a few times.

I'm having the same issues.  AHP starts up, accepts one command or macro, then locks up every time.  Any solutions?

These problems always occur in the beginning. I experienced teh same thing. Re-install your AHP and start the macro from scratch. I am currently running several macros and it is running pretty smoothly - has run several days in a row without crashes - knock on wood!

Finding this string is very disappointing. clearly this bug persist months later and I don't see a recommended solution from the ActiveHome support team. I'd like see less resources dedicated to the cheesy marketing loading up my inbox and more on technical support.  :-\
