X10 for the Sabbath Observant
« on: December 11, 2006, 09:36:11 PM »

Greetings!

As an observant Jew and the victim of three breakins in the past four-and-a-half months--always on the Sabbath or a holiday--I'm investigating X10 in the hope that its door alarms can be activated and deactivated by a computer program.

Our religious practice prohibits manually setting or resetting the system on our holy days. If we want to have it set at night (and boy, do we ever!), we won't be able to enter or leave the whole next day, since we'd trip the alarm---in itself a prohibited act, and downright noisy to boot.

We can get around that if the system can be automatically switched on and off at preset times.

Alternatively, we could get the same result if the alarm transmitter plugs into a wall, assuming a common lamp timer could be interposed.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Elly
