A small little poll to see how people feel about the term... NEWBIE.

Everyone welcome to cast their vote.  ;D

[TTA Edit: Change COLOR & SIZE of the term "NEWBIE" to the unspoken "Standard". ;) ]

A few notes:
It only takes 10 posts to upgrade past the term Newbie
There are over 88 pages of members with the status Newbie that have never posted or posted but the posts were deleted because of context!

I don't think voting counts as a post so if you never want to grow up you can still vote just don't follow it with a post! ;) :D ;D
We were all "Newbies" once!

Once the tally of votes are in (and by the way how long are the polls open), what constructive thing are you going to do with results?

Well Don N the poll started today and will be up for at least 30 days. Its just an info gathering thing .

If the poll is not in favor of the term, I'm sure the forum administrator will add it to the ban list and replace with a *bleep* text for every occurance  ;)

What is the point of the question/suvey?

Isn't it more or less up the the poster who elects to take the time to answer a repeating *bleep* question?

I tend to ignore the *bleep* who start out with a lot of whining and bashing, I will try and help steer a *bleep* where it appears the *bleep* is at least trying.

IMO, I think we need to cut the *bleep* some slack.

O-o-o-h
Excellent point. I think NEWBIE is more desireable than *bleep*...

I can't figure out why are we concerned about what people "feel" about the term "NEWBIE". It is a descriptive termand  not derogatory.

Unless the question's asked, we can all just have individual opinions. It appears there are a couple who don't like the term. I can't see the term Newbie going away anytime soon, but it is interesting to find out if people don't want to post and see themselves labelled a Newbie.

Maybe they don't realize it's only a temporary label for their first 9 posts. That's less than 2 days.  ::)  :D

good point, the term is relative to posting count.   very appropriate.

now if you call someone a newbie with the intent of calling them a noob, then I can see that as beeing offensive.

KDR

I was hoping to spark more votes from new members to get their opinion. It is intended to be another means to maybe find out why people join and don't ever post. There could be some reasons why this is done, one that comes to mind is that as a member you can review new unread messages without weeding through the list. I'm sure there are others.

Sorry to interrupt your thread.  I ran out of useful things to say on the other topics.   Ths is just a sad attempt to increase my post number.   ;D

The reason I registered and became a "NEWBIE" was because of TTA's poll: GUESTS/LURKERS: Why Don't You Register (and Become NEWBIEs)?
I didn't like being called a LURKER!

P.S. Thank-You TTA

Those that don't like the banner "NEWBIE" under their User id should speak up!
This can be easily changed to something else, it only reflects your membership status, it in no way describes one as green to X10!
Most new users state in their first post if they are new to x10 or not! ;) :D ;D
If the don't like the term votes are high we can get it changed to something like "New Member"or "Beginner",You decide! Another poll can be created with the choices, the winner getting the title!
Warning: "once one posts their 10th post they lose that banner and move on!" ;) :D ;D
KDR and my self were just wondering if this was one of the reasons so many join but never post! ::) ???
(just one of the many things we chat about on Yahoo) ;) :D ;D
The more people posting the more valuable information this forum will hold! ;) :)

While there are nowhere near enough votes as of this post to draw conclusions, it's interesting that the only 3 voters so far that didn't like the term were from people that weren't Newbies.

While technically I'm not a newbie to x10, I am a newbie to the forum, since I haven't posted much in the past.  I attribute that to the fact that most of the info I want can be found by searching, and the fact that I usually don't purchase there newer items as they are released.  I don't mind the term, you'll all figure out who I am and what I know as I post and the title will come to mean nothing.
