Home Security & Alarm System

I will be visiting my retirement  home Central America in March. I plan to install a Security system to monitor the whole home. It is about 1400sq. ft.- single story. Won't be moving there until January of 2009......but will have folks renting it for about 8 months. For total dollar layout and simplicity of installation; what product  would give me the most "bang for my buck"
