A bad SR227?
« on: May 07, 2010, 02:10:10 PM »

Today I tried triggering an SR227, with several different remotes,  I have connected in my barn and it wouldn't work, not even a click. I tried a different lamp in it and that wouldn't work either. When I plugged the light into the "uncontrolled" part of the outlet the light came on. (This was after I fixed the TM571 problem),(see below)
Using my voltmeter I measured the voltage on the "controlled" section, it measures 98VAC and won't switch on/off, the uncontrolled section 119VAC.
Is there any troubleshooting, or resetting it, or did it just go bad? Geez, it was working just a few days ago, and it's not more than 4 - 6 weeks old.
I'm not having very good luck with this stuff lately. I woke this morning to find that NONE of my X10 stuff would work. >*< What I finally figured out was that both of my TM571s I was using,(not at the same time anymore), were somehow not working. I eventually plugged a lamp into one of it's outlets,(not normally used), and cycled it on/off a few times with the button, then tried it with a remote and it started working again.
Strange, I guess this is what they mean by "Ghosts in the machine"! B:(  I'm about ready to call an Exorcist!  ???
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Snyde

It is probably failed. The 98 volts you where reading with a high impedance meter was the am I On or Off sensing voltage for the mechanical switch. On the chance the microcontroller got confused by some power line noise. Have you cycled the breaker off. Then wait maybe thirty seconds and reapply the power?

The TM751s. Where all your modules not responding to remote commands or was it a light in the TM751s socket not working?
Antthing new in the home that could be making power line noise or signal sucking? That could effect the signals from the TM751s?

Yes, I cycled the breaker on/off, no change.
The only thing new is an X10 Signal Bridge - HomePro CP000 I installed last night. Everything worked after that though, including a WS13A that was on the opposite phase than the TM571 was controlling, the WS13A wouldn't work remotely before that. As far as the TM571 not working, NONE of my modules would work. I discovered early this morning that one of my TM571s has gone bad, I'm so confused with all the testing and swapping TM571s, and outlets that I don't remember if the one I have determined was dead is the one that was plugged in the wall when I discovered things weren't working this morning, but I think it probably was, although the other TM571 wouldn't work at first either until I plugged a lamp into it and locally switched it on/off a few times, then it started to work remotely. I called X10 today and requested an RMA for the other TM571, and need to do this for the SR227 outlet once you guys help me determine that it is truly dead. It's weird that both a TM571 AND a SR227 quit working today, or maybe not. B:(
Thanks for the help,
Rick

One more thing. Lately we have seen House and Unit Code switches get flaky and the module thinks it is on a different address.
Long shot here. Try rotating the House and Unit code switches a few turns and try it again.

My thoughts are dead switch.

Isn't there a thread here about a small plastic part breaking or becoming mis-positioned and causing this problem? Brain juice is drying up but this sounds familiar.  ???

That's one of the 1st things I did, that made no difference. I then rotated both switches 180* in case I "read" the switch wrong, it's still not working.
I guess my next move is to call X10 and request an RMA for this too.
Thanks,

Yes dave w; There was a thread that mentioned the breaking plastic piece.
It is also on idobartana's automation web site.

just experienced my first broken wall outlet. it has a rattling piece inside it. I am going to assume that it is the little plastic piece that is in the link in the previous post.

Seems to be a weak point. will replace outlet with a new one and see how long this one lasts.

Most likely it is the plastic actuator that has broken.
