e-speaking [x10 voice control]!
« on: February 06, 2011, 02:15:38 PM »

Many of us have fallen in love with BVC but there are other players out there!
e-speaking is one that delivers what BVC has failed to do for to long. :'(
Is it capable of replacing BVC? ??? Probably not on a windows 7 64 bit machine (doesn't work well on mine).
However if your running XP it is a power house! You may wish to give this little app a test run.
It suggests using the ahcmd to fire X10 commands, which isn't the best way as we all know.
However since it can start any application you could use PcCompanion to fire the X10 command or possibly any other program that will accept commandline paramiters.
Will it work along side BVC at the same time? That I haven't tested, I merely tested it with PCC.
If you do decide to give this app a try please let the rest of us know what you think.

Yeah... and there always has been. I am a big Fan of BVC (as most of us know) and there has been distractions from BVC since day one. I've often suggested to Bill that he strip the Voice Command from BVC and create a "Talking X10 Software"... of some sort. It would still be worth more than the $30 dollar [US] donation he asks for BVC now.

I'd really like to see Bill (or SOMEONE) jump in to the X10 software with some Artificial Intelligence. Or at least a very cleverly written (and Internet connected) chat-bot function that I could incorporate into my setup. I hate waiting for the future to happen.

you want a chat bot?
e-speaking can do that, if thats what you realy want!
Have you looked at the videos?
One user even has it set up in their car!
I'm Not sure how well this works with BVC since both are VR programs but if they play well it sure would expand ones setup! ;)

Oh no. BVC has lots to offer... AND it allows voice control as well. What do I want.... I don't know.. what ya got? I think imagination is a rare and valuable commodity. I believe... it is the lack of imagination that limits our Home Automation. Have you seen the Chevy Video (Internet connected talking car). It is really beginning to look like tomorrows computer... is what we call a phone.. today. Maybe we should be looking at apps.

If I can buy a cheap Chevy and it can poll my FaceBook and read me back relevant posts/information.... why can't I have that in my home? By "cleverly written (and Internet connected) chat-bot function" this is the kind of stuff I am talking about. Or... a chat-bot that could discuss the events unfolding in Egypt today... and bring current and historical information with it (from reliable Internet sources)... maybe from a bot-server designed to function with the chat-bot.

Well you don't need to buy a Chevy Cruse to have a talking car that can do the internet!
It can be done if you wish to do some tinkering!
-:)Hey maybe thats a winter project for you!
Every thing you want can be done Dave!
However none of this is out of the box stuff (Plug N Play).
You have to configure e-speaking just like you'd have to configure the OnStar in that Chevy Cruse! ::) :'
Your BVC setup is only part of what is possible, You did configure it didn't you?
Why not take it to the next step?

Nothing is a strong word!
It wasn't intended to be an attack on BVC as many here seem to think!
Voice is what makes BVC stand out!
I use BVC regularly! However BVC still needs a boost!
I started this thread for as a way to expand on a X10 setup. Right away some seen it as me saying, "Dump BVC!"
This is not what I'm saying!

Many users secretly try other X10 software trying to replace (or boost) the power of what they have in use now!
That's fine! When you find something I hope you report about it in the forums so the rest of us can give it a try!
Simply put e-speaking boost the power of one's x10 setup!
In most cases it won't replace what your using now.
